A Couple Months Later
"Thank you Dave" Mrs. Rosa said as she handed me some money.
When I don't have school or practice I go around the neighborhood and ask to shovel peoples sidewalks and driveways for some extra cash. And now that Basketball season officially ended yesterday I had enough free time in my hands to make some extra cash to help around the house. All the cash I can get was very much needed at the moment.
"No problem Mrs.Rosa. Have a nice evening" I smiled before walking away. I walked the couple feet that it took to get to my house. Arriving I noticed a note taped to the door. I quickly ran up the steps to take a look.
Reaching the door I took the note off the door seeing that it was an eviction notice.
I walked in hoping mom was here so she could explain this because last time I checked me and Rome and scraped up just enough money to pay the rent that was due since apparently we were 3 months behind. We busted our asses off working overtime to come up with 2 grand to pay rent so the fact that we were late again and this time getting evicted didn't make any sense to me.
I walked in and yelled out for her
"Mom"
"She's not home"Layla said as she laid on the couch watching Tv
"Where she at?" I asked as I took off my coat hanging it up
"She said she called into work"
That's another thing that wasn't making any sense to me. She would always get called into work on her days off but the money seem to becoming less and less. It seemed like instead of her earning more money she was earning less.
I walked into the kitchen seeing if I could find something to snack on until either my OG or sister got home to cook.
I opened the fridge seeing that there wasn't anything in there besides half gallon of milk and half gallon of juice.
"Lay didn't mom say she was going grocery shopping yesterday?" I yelled
"Uh yeah but she said something happened with her bank so she couldn't get money" She yelled back
I took a deep breath letting it out making my way to my room. I took the money I made tonight putting it in my shoe box but making sure I left out $20 so I could order some food for us because from the looks of it they would go to sleep starving again if he didn't order out.
"Hey what you doing?" I heard someone say
I looked towards the door and see Jerome standing there.
"Getting money to order some food. Apparently the bank ain't give OG money yesterday so she ain't buy no food"
