5:30AM

This is not what I expected to be doing at 5:30 in the morning. I was out, with my Mother, investigating a crime scene. It wasn't a simple one either. A young girl, who's name I recognised immediately thanks to Candice, had her blood entirely drained.

Victoria Dunby.

The leading crime officer stated she was only eighteen years old. I saw my Mother's reaction when she found out Victoria's age. She looked piteous and traumatised. I remember making eye contact with her. I could see how worried she was.

"She's the twelfth victim to die within the past two weeks." The officer said to Mum.

"And your whole team believe it's a supernatural cause, right?" She questioned.

"Definitely". The officer nodded in response.

"Good. We're on the same page then." Mum said, before she looked around the crime scene.

"Any clues as to why?" Mum asked.

The officer gave her a knowing look.

"I think you know the real reason, ma'am." He responded.

Mum nodded back in return.

"We'll stop them." She said, reassuringly.

"I pray to god we do." The officer responded.

Mum turned her body towards me.

"Go wait in the car." She instructed.

And I obliged. I paced beside the crime scene, looking at Victoria's body at the same time. I felt guilty somehow. I couldn't explain why.

I opened the passenger door, and quickly sat in the car. My hands immediately rubbed, forming a warm friction. It was a cold night. The temperature was cold enough to snow.

I patiently waited for Mum. Around five minutes later, she entered the car. Before turning the ignition on, she turned to face me.

"You know why she died, right?" She suddenly asked.

I looked up at her, trying to mask the fact that I knew why she died, with a confused expression.

"She's on the dead pool." She revealed, only to cause me to react in shock.

"You know about the dead pool?" I asked.

"As do you, Yasmin." She said with a curt nod.

"Victoria was a chosen one. Just like everyone else on that list. The list will continue to exist, until they find a new leader." She continued, facing the front.

"It's a prophecy of war and ruin." She mumbled.

I kept quiet.

"They're all going to pay." Her voice was cold and distant.

There was a couple of seconds of silence, that slowly passed.

"Why didn't you react when you saw the body?" Mum asked, turning back towards me.

I kept my focus on the road, trying to ignore her question.

"Have you seen a dead body before?" She continued to ask.

Celeste's and Mehmet's.

I saw them both as ghosts, but they were both covered in blood.

"Why aren't you scared, Yasmin?"

"Because there's no point in being scared anymore." I responded silently.
