Two weeks later
*Ashley's POV*

Today Everleigh and I are going to spend some time together. Lately I feel like I've been so wrapped up in trying to figure my love life out, that I haven't had time to focus on my one true love, Everleigh.

"So what should we do today on our special mommy and Ever day?" I ask, while sliding a spoonful of special K cereal into my mouth. Ev shrugs.

"I don't know!"

I think for a moment.

"Let's do something we haven't done in a long time!" I say, remembering the flier for the county fair hung up in the studio.

"What?" Everleigh asks, intrigued.

"How about we go to the fair? We could go on rides, eat cotton candy and snow cones, how does that sound?"

"Yeah!!!" Everleigh exclaims, bouncing excitedly in her seat. "Can Poppy come?" She pleads, clasping her hands together. I shake my head.

"Sorry Ev, But the fair isn't exactly the place for kitties." Ev hangs her head.

"Ok." She sighs, disappointedly.

"You know what? I saw a bakery made especially for pets not too far from our house. What if we stop there and pick up a special treat for Poppy?" I suggest, hoping to cheer her up. Everleigh looks up and smiles.

"Ok!" She agrees.

Once breakfast is over and the table is cleared, Ev and I were ready to go.

"We have to go say bye to Poppy!" Everleigh says, sprinting off in the direction of the play room. That's the one thing I had to have before I let her get a pet, was a room designated only for the purpose of that pet and that pet could never leave that room without permission.

Everleigh bolts through the door and runs over to the kitten, scooping her up and snuggling her close.

"Bye Poppy girl!" Everleigh soothes, rocking the little kitten back and forth. I pull my phone out and snap a picture of the cute encounter.

Every time I regret my decision about getting a pet, I look back at all the love Everleigh has shown to Poppy, and the feeling goes away

Every time I regret my decision about getting a pet, I look back at all the love Everleigh has shown to Poppy, and the feeling goes away. Although I don't regret her at all. It's almost impossible not to fall in love with Poppy. She's the perfect little companion.

"It makes my heart hurt when we have to weave Poppy at home." Everleigh says, as we walk outside to the car. I smile and give her hand a gentle squeeze.

"I know baby, but Poppy will be happier here. She'll have lots of fun playing on her playground." I say, attempting to cheer her up.

"It also hurts my heart when you and daddy fight." Ev says, kicking a pebble off the driveway. My face falls and I look at my little girl, who's unaware of what she said.
