I walked away. Pausing the tape since it was finished. I take a glance back at her house. And just slightly behind was a tree. Rikkun was sitting on a branch.
I blinked.
Rikkun!?
She didn't smile. I run back to the opening of the fence and pushed it open. I run to the backyard. She was gone. I look around. Where did she go? I look to the parking. She was on the road. She turns to see me. She waves. I wanted to call her name. Instead I run to her. She goes the other way, towards the elementary school. Her speed was quick. God why is she making me run? Why am I even running for her? Is she even real?
We ran besides the short black fence. Rikkun soon jumped over the fence almost tripping. She runs further in the area. I stopped and ran the other way wanting to see her face. Had she done this to the others on the tapes?
I could feel myself losing my breath but I kept running after her. Rikkun climbs a fence and balanced herself to walk to the roof. Just like a cat. I can't do that. "Rikkun!" I finally shout. She was already on the roof. Running away. I couldn't see her. "Damn it!" I kicked the fence. The recorder drops from my pocket.
I wonder if you all see my body running. Is it the wolf? Maybe the fox? Or maybe something else? I really do love riddles.
I slide down to sit and listen to the player out loud. She's alive. I know it. She has to. I can't be seeing things! What have you got for me, Rikkun? I can't solve these riddles like this.
I've always been known to me mischievous. And I like it. But maybe, maybe I'm missing something that you all have heard about me. Who knows?
I paused the tape. I can't. I let my head fall. I need time to think. I need to go home.
