"Hannah, you really need to let her out now."

I sat up to listen to Hannah and her dad. I pressed my ear to the peep I hole I had bust in the wall.

"I realize, Dad, but she's trying to steal my Cam."

"Don't you think she's suffered enough?" "She's probably incredibly dehydrated."

"I DON'T CARE DAD!" She screamed. "Whatever, unlock the door and let her out."

I pressed my back against the back of the closet, scared. I licked my lips but my tongue was nearly as dry as my chapped lips.

The lock clicked.

I shielded my eyes as sunlight poured in the dark closet.

"Get out, Kate." "Your punishment's over." Hannah threw a water bottle at me.

I crawled out of the closet gripping the water bottle to my chest.

"Dad, tie her up."

"Hannah, we need to let her drink." "She can't die of dehydration."

"WHY NOT DAD?"

I gritted my teeth and held back my tongue. I wanted to attack Hannah, I wanted to transfer my pain to her. But at that moment I was weak. I was thirsty, hungry and tired. I chugged the water bottle until it was completely empty. I looked around and realized Cam was standing by the porch. His hands were tied behind his back and he was tied to the stair railing. He nodded at me.

"Save me." I mouthed.

"Dad, tie her up now!" "We're wasting time I could be spending with Cam!"

Hannah's dad turned me around and tied my hands together.

"Ok, now lead her back to the little house." Hannah smiled sweetly. "I'll be inside with Cam!"

I shook my head as Hannah's dad led me back to the shed. I wanted desperately to ask him why he was listening to her, why he was an accomplice in this. But I couldn't risk any more trouble. I did not want to end up back in the closet.

Before I realized I was shoved inside the shed and my hands were untied. I ran to the bathroom as the front door was being locked.

After I had relieved myself I headed back out to the kitchenette. I opened the fridge and pulled out the sandwich supplies. I sat at the dining room trying to eat my sandwich but my mouth was still parched.

I stared at the kitchen sink for a moment before I realized it was worth trying. I walked over to the faucet and put my mouth under the faucet. I turned the handle. Cool water splashed down on my face and into my mouth.

I had never realized I was taking water for granted until I had to spend a day without it in the desert. In that moment, the cold water was the best feeling I had ever experienced.

After I had sufficiently quenched my thirst I returned to my sandwich.

I finished my sandwich and returned to the fridge. I tried to figure out how long the food I had could last me. I had ten pieces of bread left. That was enough for five sandwiches. I usually ate two to three sandwiches a day.

"Damn." "That's only enough for max two more days." I took a deep breath. "Cameron better keep his distance tonight. "I can't risk losing food privileges again."

I closed the fridge and walked over to the couch. I went to sit down, but decided it would be wise of me to change and get a shower as I had spent the last day drenched in my own sweat.

I rifled through the clothes drawer and found a Chino High shirt.

"Haha, isn't this ironic." I pulled the shirt out. "Well, it's mine now." "It's not like she can pull the clothes off of me anyway."

After a refreshing twenty minutes I laid a towel out on the couch and laid my head down. I slipped peacefully into slumber.

Instead of fear and hunger, my dream world was full of life and happiness. I sat in the club eating onion rings, mozzarella sticks. I sat drinking Shirley Temples and laughing with Cam. I took selfies with the daily Snapchat filters.

I smiled in my sleep because while the world was gone, I was in peace.
