"How does it feel to be finally out of the hospital?" "Are you at all prepared for the trial?" "What was it like being held captive for eight months?" "Did you see Hannah kill her father?" "Is it true you signed Hannah and Cameron's marriage certificate willingly?"

I tried to shield my eyes from all of the blinding flash form the reporters' cameras. Cameron had his arm around my waist and was leading me to his car through the sea of bodies. They had sat there like vultures for the past few days because my mother had been stupid enough to post on her Facebook that I was being released from the hospital.

"I told you she has no comment!" Cameron yelled aggressively at the reporters.

"Cameron, please just ignore them." I said quietly. I felt like I was being compressed smaller and smaller, like the sea of cameras and microphones was going to smother me.

"Move!" Cameron pushed a reporter off of the passenger side door of his car. He opened it and waited for me to get in.

I climbed carefully into the seat. It was the first day I had worn shoes since my feet had been fileted and I was in quite a bit of pain. They had just removed the final stitches a three days ago. The biggest cut on my left foot had to be stitched up for a third time because when I walked on it in physical therapy the stitches burst open and my foot started to bleed again.

I sat in the car with my hand shielding my face. I didn't want any pictures taken. For anyone else, leaving the hospital after almost two months would be a joyful day, but for me it was anything but. I had to be reminded of what lay outside the hospital walls. I had to be reminded that I was a key witness in a kidnapping and murder trial.

I jumped as Cameron slammed his door shut. He buckled his seat belt and pounded the gas. I was thrusted back into my seat as the car sped off down the street.

"I'm so sorry about that back there, Kate."

"It's not your fault." I mumbled while I picked at my nail beds. My nails had finally grown back to the length they were before Hannah had kidnapped us. I had always been known for my beautiful, naturally long nails and was really sad when they all cracked and chipped and broke due to a lack of nutrition.

"Where are we going?" I ran my hands down my thighs, nervously.

"Not our apartment, that's for sure." "One of my friends came to visit two days ago and led the reporters straight there."

"Great." I rolled my eyes and picked at the hem of my skirt. It was a pale pink organza. It reminded me of a ballerina's tutu. Cameron had brought it to me a few days ago. He said he saw it in a store and wanted me to wear it the day I left the hospital. If there were going to be pictures, I should at least try to look cute.

"It's kind of weird how you keep calling it our apartment."

"Why?"

"Well, it's just I've never even seen it." I shrugged. "It probably doesn't even have anything in it for me." "No toothbrush, no clothes, no coffee mug." "Nothing."

"What makes you think I haven't been spending the last two months getting it ready for you?" "Kate, I've been dreaming of the day when I get to finally take you home to a place that is ours." "Not mine, not yours, but ours."

I half smiled. "You're really sweet, Cam."

"You're the light of my life, I want nothing more than to spend every day with you." "I want more than anything for us to be able to have a normal life together." "Live in a home, a real home, not some shed in the middle of the desert." He put his hand on my thigh, palm up. I placed my hand in his. He wrapped his fingers around mine and squeezed gently. "I love you, Kate." "Don't forget that, no matter what happens in the next few months."

I nodded. "I understand." "I love you too, Cam."

I looked out at the sun kissed Nevada sky line. I didn't want this place to be home forever, but for right now it was all I needed.
