"Hey Kate." Cameron nodded at me while Hannah's dad untied his hands.
"They still tie your wrists?" I hissed.
Cameron furrowed his brow. "Yeah, why are you acting so weird?"
"Oh no reason really." I walked around the couch and pulled the coloring book out from under the cushion.
"Well, as you know I've had to spend two days straight with Hannah." He looked at the couch for a second and pointed at my pillow. "That's new." "Did Hannah give you that?"
"Yes." I said sharply. I started walking over to the trash can in the kitchen.
"Kate, what's going on?" "Kate, are you and Hannah working together?" "Kate, please tell me she's not bribing you."
I stood over the trash can and began furiously ripping the coloring book. The shredded paper fell between my fingers into the trash can. Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched the colorful animals we had colored together ripped apart and joined my empty Gatorade bottles in the trash.
"Hey!" Cameron grabbed my wrist.
I screamed at the top of my lungs. "I never loved you Cameron!" I fought out of his grip and threw the rest of the book in the trash.
"Kate, please don't do this!" "I know you don't mean that!"
"I never loved you Cameron." I growled. "Now please leave me the hell alone."
"Kate." He reached for my hand but I pulled it away.
I turned my back to him and curled up on the couch.
I heard Cameron smack his hands on the floor behind me. I sat up slightly to look over the back of the couch.
He was crouched down, smacking the floor with his hands. His chest was heaving with sobs. His hair hung in his face.
It was the look of someone who had lost everything. It was the look of someone at rock bottom.
I rolled back over on the couch. "It's for your own good." I whispered under my breath.
I laid there waiting for him to stand up and collect himself. I laid there waiting for him to retire to his room. But he didn't. I laid there for at least an hour before I stood up to check on him. I found him curled up on the floor, he face soaked with tears.
I bent down and hooked my hands under his arms. "C'mon, Cam." I tugged on his arms. "You can't sleep in the middle of the kitchen."
He moaned a little and pulled his arms closer to his body.
"Cameron Alexander Dallas." "You know I do not possess the body strength to lift all 5'9" of you." I tugged on his arm. "You're gonna have to help me out here."
He opened his eyes and sat up. "Oh, so you're talking to me now?"
"Cameron, there may be no audio on those cameras but Hannah will be able to tell if I'm breaking her rules." I let go of his arm and motioned for him to stand up. "Get up and go sleep in your bed."
"So you are being forced to act like this." Cameron stood up and wiped his cheeks with the collar of his shirt.
"More or less." "It feels horrible but I need to survive."
Cameron started walking back to his bedroom. "Just know, I'll always love you and I miss you every second I have to spend in that prison Hannah calls our home."
"Your home?"
"Yes, she has decided we are now living together." He poked his head out of the bedroom door. "But Kate, just." He paused and looked up at the camera in the corner of the bedroom. "I found a ring ok."
I gasped. "Ok, but I really need to go to bed." "I'm trying to see what prize four is."
"Good night, Kate."
"Night, Cam."
I laid that night on the couch trying to find shapes in the light cast on the wall. It was a full moon that night so there was a lot of light in the living room.
I rolled around with the idea of Hannah wanting to be engaged to Cameron. I knew it'd be a coerced engagement, but the thought of it hurt me a little. She was putting down roots with him, was this really what would come of our situation? Was she really going to win and live happily ever after with Cameron?
