"Here's the letters from the past three days." Hannah's dad handed me three folded pieces of paper. "I wanted to bring them to you sooner, but it's a little hard to sneak over here on days that aren't grocery days."
"No, it's ok." "Thank you so much for this." I handed him three folded pieces of paper in return. "These are for Cameron."
He nodded and shut the door and locked it.
I sat down at the dining room table and pushed my groceries aside. I opened the first letter slowly. I had no clue what might or might not be inside.
Dear Kate,
Hannah's dad told me that you asked him to exchange letters between us. Thank you for that. I've missed you so much. Every day I have to pretend that I'm in love with Hannah and it's painful. She got a new bed for us. It's a queen and it has these bubble gum pink sheets. It's the most sickeningly girly thing ever. But that doesn't matter. I want to make sure you are ok. I know it's been over two weeks since Hannah had me move in here, and I can't even imagine how lonely you must be. Even though I literally have to spend my every living moment with Hannah, I want you to know that what I told you the night before the wedding is true. None of this changes how I feel about you. One day, we will be free and we will get to be together. I know you love to go on adventures and trust me Kate, we're going to go on an adventure every day of our lives once we're free. Hannah cooks a lot of good food for me, and I wish so much that I could share it with you. I hope you're ok. I miss you so much Kate, and please don't give up. I will get back to you.
Love, Cam
I wiped the tears from my cheeks. Just getting to see his writing on a paper was enough for me. I had missed him so much and getting this letter gave me some strength to keep going. I looked at the groceries. I really had to put them away but after that I would read the other two letters.
I finished putting the fish fillets in the freezer and closed the freezer door. I walked back to the dining room table where Cameron's letters sat. I picked them up and walked over to the couch. I plopped down on the soft blue cushions and opened the second letter.
Dear Kate,
I know that Hannah's dad can't deliver the letters everyday but I still want to write you every day. Hannah's been driving me insane. She's got this idea in her head that she's going to dye our hair matching colors. But it's not even like brown or blonde highlights like I've done before. It's bright red. Like cherry red. Please Kate, save me. Like I really don't want to have cherry red hair the next time you see me. I really miss you so much. I wish I even had a picture of you. Something to keep me going. I finally got to watch that movie you used to talk about. And you were absolutely right. Valentine's Day is the cheesiest movie ever. I feel like I fall more in love with you every day. Hannah hated the movie by the way. She actually got up about thirty minutes in and went up to her room to sulk. I hope you're hanging in there. I promise I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Love, Cam
I shook my head. "Ahh, I love him so much." I opened the third letter.
Dear Kate,
Hannah's dad said he'd bring the letters to you today. I kind of have to rush with this one because Hannah's in a bad mood and Hannah's dad is going to take you grocery shopping in fifteen minutes. Just know that Hannah's gone a little cuckoo, she's going to Babies R' Us to look at baby clothes. She's really set on wanting a kid. That's why she's in a bad mood by the way. I told her she was crazy and I did not love her. I love you and the only kids I could ever imagine having would be with you. One day when we're free we'll have our six kids and live on a farm like you want. I miss you lots. I love you. Try to keep yourself busy. I keep trying to convince Hannah to bring you something to do, but she's being a little stubborn. Anyway Hannah's dad needs this now.
Love, Cam
I smiled. I love him so much. I looked at the clock. It was 12:18. Lunch time. I figured I'd make chicken nuggets and some Chick-fil-A sauce.
