"Here's the book." I set the scrapbook down gently in Hannah's arms.
"I'm sure Cameron and I will love it." She smiled brightly.
I took in everything that was Hannah. From her elegantly coiled hair pulled up into an up-do, to her sparkling highlighted cheek bones, to her bright white lace dress, all the way down to her sparkly heels. Which she had finally managed to walk across a room in.
She was truly happy today. To her this was the dream come true. She had obsessed over Cameron for likely years just to one day get this day. It scared me, she scared me, but she was genuinely happy today.
There were days that I would choose to fight against Hannah, but today I couldn't bring myself to it.
Today was her day, no matter how she had come to this day, today was her day.
She opened the door and walked out of the shed. I smoothed down my sky blue dress one last time before I walked out of the shed after her. I pulled the door shut behind me.
That should have been a moment where I felt power, in many ways I was freer than I had been in months. But I couldn't. I still knew that I was only here to be the witness. I was a key needed by Hannah to unlock her wedded matrimony with Cameron.
I was in many ways a pig raised for slaughter. I realized that that day more than any other in the last two months. She had befriended me to convince me to sign off on her wedding. She convinced her father to become ordained to perform weddings, and I was the witness on the certificate.
I didn't know what was in store for me now that Hannah had reached what she was hoping to achieve with kidnapping us, and parts of me didn't even want to think about it. She no longer had a reason to be nice to me.
But I took a deep breath as I walked into the main house for the first time. The house smelled like a cupcake scented candle. It was slightly warm, which was strange seeing as it was May in Nevada and most people had their AC blasting already.
Hannah led me to the kitchen where she wanted me to see the food.
"I hope it still looks alright." "I tried my best to be careful with it last night and this morning."
"I think it still looks great."
We walked out to the living room where a table was set up with a candy bowl. She set the scrapbook down on the table and took a mini chocolate bar. "Would you like some candy?" She motioned to the bowl.
"No thank you." I walked around the living room. The living room that Cameron had spent every day in for the past five months. I looked at the big TV, the bookshelves, the couch with the leather straps on one seat. Cameron told me that she didn't really use them anymore.
I ran my hand over the upholstery on the back of the couch.
"Do like the couch?" "It's my favorite color."
I nodded. "It's nice." I turned back around to face her. "So is your aunt the only other person coming?"
"I invited my older brother." She looked at the floor. "But he hasn't talked to me in almost four years so." She shrugged and looked back up at me. "It's ok though, private weddings are more personal."
"How old are you Hannah?" I looked at her slightly confused.
"Twenty-one." "My twenty first birthday was actually the day before I found you guys." She laughed quietly.
I nodded and walked back to the candy table. I plucked a caramel Hershey's Kiss out of the bowl and unwrapped it. I plopped it in my mouth and began sucking on it, slightly on edge.
"So when is the wedding starting Hannah?"
"As soon as my aunt is done getting ready." She looked up at the staircase. "I told her to be ready by noon." She checked her phone. She held it up for me to see. 12:27. "She can be a little slow getting ready, she always wants to look nice." She chuckled a little.
Just then a middle-aged woman in a deep purple silk dress descended the stairs gracefully. She walked down the stairs so easily it almost seemed like she was floating.
Hannah ran out of the living room to meet the woman at the bottom of the stairs. "Auntie Linda!" She threw her arms around her aunt and hugged her tightly.
Her aunt stepped back after they finished hugging and looked Hannah up and down. "Hannah, you are gorgeous." "I'm so proud of you!" She pulled Hannah in again.
"Thanks, Auntie Linda." "I'm just so excited to finally be marrying the love of my life."
"So where's the groom?" Hannah's aunt looked around.
"He's already in the guest room that were using for the ceremony." She checked her phone. "And actually, Dad says they're ready."
"Well than what are we waiting for?" Hannah's aunt grabbed her hand and started pulling her towards the back of the house. I grabbed the bouquet sitting on the coffee table and ran after them.
