"Kate, she's brainwashing you!" "Don't you see that?" Cameron pounded on the bathroom door. "Please let me in!"
I sat against the door crying quietly. I knew I had to do this. I couldn't go against the deal. I was convinced this would help Cameron.
"Kate, why would you do this?"
I heard him slide down the door to the floor.
Cameron sat with his back against the door. "Please, Kate." "I don't want to lose you." "I don't know what Hannah threatened you with this time, but please don't do this."
I heard him crying through the door.
"I love you Kate, more than I have ever loved another person." "I know you're hurting but please don't leave me."
I sat there silently wishing for him to just go to bed.
"Kate, she made me make a Twitter post today." "I had to tell everyone I was fine, that I was just taking a break from everything to try to sort my life out." He leaned his head against the door. "She made me lie so that they will stop looking for us."
I sat there silently wiping the tears from my face.
"Kate?" "Please talk to me." "You can't shut me out." "We need each other." "We agreed to be in this together."
He sighed. "Kate, I had to sleep in the same bed as her." "I had to betray you and it felt horrible." "Kate, I hate her." "I could never hate you." "Please let me in."
I sat there on the cool tile floor picking at the hem of my shorts. I sat there looking at the camouflage of green, purple and blue on my legs. Shutting Cameron out hurt, but not as much as all of those beatings hurt.
I knew I had to make sacrifices and at that point, Cameron was the thing I chose to give up.
The next few weeks hurt. My physical pain went away, my bruises faded, but I had to walk through every day with a breaking heart. That pain hurt almost as much. I loved Cameron very much.
Eventually, Hannah gave me no choice. I couldn't lose Cameron. I realized that we had to be in it together.
Until we couldn't. Hannah stopped beating me, yes. But she never stopped making my life hell.
Hannah's plan with having Cameron do a Twitter post worked for a little bit. Until of course the police realized that the phone that made that Tweet was not Cameron's.
They got closer to finding us. They finally realized around week ten that we weren't in Mexico. However, instead of looking east they went back to California and started looking around San Francisco, where they had a supposed sighting.
There was a missing couple in San Francisco. A couple in their mid-twenties who had been kidnapped from a bar. Hannah showed us the article. They got to go home, but we were still trapped.
