The next week passed almost without event. Cameron went up to the main house every morning and returned every night. We didn't talk about Hannah unless something major happened to either of us. I bought a bag of chips and a jar of salsa at the grocery store and we would sit and chat while we ate.

Cameron lifted the edge of my pink top to expose my stomach. "The bruises have definitely faded a lot."

I nodded and swallowed my chip. "Yeah, I'm really glad to." "I was tired of being all blue."

"Another week and they'll probably all be gone." He put my shirt back down. He sat on the couch back and rubbed my leg.

I tapped his chest with my toes. "Hey, Mr. Dallas, you better be careful where you put those hands." "I'm not trying to give up have three meals a day, again."

Cameron laughed and held up his hands. "I'm not doing anything." "So tell me about your tattoos."

"Well." I sat up on the couch and set the bag of chips on the coffee table. "I got the angel wings during the summer after my senior year."

He nodded.

"And the carnation I got for my eighteenth birthday." I smiled. "Probably one of my better days in life."

He smiled. "You really like Shawn, don't you?"

"He is an amazing singer, Cameron!" "And from what I know as a fan, an amazing person."

"He is a pretty great person."

"But there's one more." I pointed to my foot. "You can honestly probably see it better from where you're sitting."

"Which foot?" He pointed to my feet.

"Left." "Inside of my ankle."

He picked up my left foot and looked for my tattoo. "Oh, it's a rain cloud."

"Storm cloud actually." "That's what my mom used to call me." "I'm just a little storm cloud" I did air quotes.

"No, not you." He set my foot down and grinned at me.

"Well, you didn't know me in high school, but I was in fact a little storm cloud." "I didn't really like the way life was in Delaware and I was frequently in a pissy mood."

"Well, I think you're a very happy person with me."

"What can I say, you make me smile." I held his hand for a second. "So, you're twenty-four now."

"Yes."

"Are you still worried about what your mom would think if you got a tattoo?"

He shrugged. "A little, but I just don't really think I'm going to ever get a tattoo." He paused. "I love yours though." "I think it you're very strong for being able to sit through getting three tattoos."

"Ehhh." "I mean, I know people with a lot more, plus mine are fairly small." "But I was actually thinking about getting another while I was in LA."

"And you didn't?"

"Well, I figured I could hide a trip to LA because I only have my mom on Facebook, but hiding a new tattoo is a little harder." I yawned. "Ohhh." "Cam you should head to bed." "I need sleep."

Cameron stood up and grabbed the bowl of salsa and the bag of chips.

"I could get those." I frowned, sticking my bottom lip out.

"But then I wouldn't be a good boyfriend."

I blew him a kiss. "I love you."

"I love you too, Kate."

Cameron walked back over to the couch. He ran his hand down my hair and kissed me on the forehead. "Good night."

"Good night, Cam." "I'll see you in the morning."

I tossed and turned that night. Partially because of the bruises still hurting when I laid on them but mostly because my baby sister's birthday was a couple days ago and I didn't get to see her. I loved my baby sister a lot and it hurt me to be not able to see her. Not being able to see family was arguably the hardest part of being held captive in the Nevada desert. You missed things like birthdays and you couldn't talk to them to see how they were doing.

I knew Cameron had a sister. I laid there looking out the window at the night wondering if he missed her. It was hard being away from all those we knew. It ripped you up inside.

That night I fell asleep with tears soaking the cushion beneath my face.
