"I really think that sticking to a natural palette is your best bet." I waved an eyeshadow brush around.

"I can see what you're saying." "I don't know." "I just have this really pretty green dress that Cam really likes." "I think the green would be a good look." Hannah looked at the colors in the eyeshadow palette. She pointed to a medium green. "Can we try this one on the other eye?"

I nodded. "Sure, let me just clean the brushes."

I made quick work of the other eye. I did a halo look with the medium green at the corners and a light silver in the middle. I used a dark green for the cut crease. I gave her a dramatic cat eye. I curled her eyelashes and applied mascara.

I held up the mirror. "What do you think?"

She observed her eyeshadow in the mirror for a minute. "I really love it Kate."

"Ok, we can go with the green for your wedding."

She dug through the lip products. "I like this lipstick." She held up a tube of liquid medium red matte lip color.

"I like this to, but a liquid matte will be really dry." "I don't think you want really dry lips when you have your first kiss as a married couple."

Hannah laughed. "Yeah, you're probably right."

I pulled out a tube of pale pink lipstick. "I think that because we're doing such a bold eye that we should go for a simpler lip."

Hannah nodded.

I applied the lipstick and handed Hannah the mirror. "What do you think?"

Hannah puckered her lips in the mirror and smiled. "I like it." "I think you are right about going for a simpler lip."

She stood up and pushed the chair out from in front of the bathroom mirror. She stood in the mirror looking over the full face of makeup I had given her. "It took a while but I really love it." She turned her face to look at her contoured cheeks. "I really like the way you shaped my face."

She pulled me into a squeeze. "Oh I'm so happy to have a friend who can do my makeup for my special day!"

"I'm glad to be of assistance." I smiled. "I had a lot of fun doing your makeup."

Hannah checked her phone. "It actually already lunch time, so I have to go." She hugged me again. "We'll just have to do hair tomorrow."

"I look forward to it."

"Well I left a bag of stuff for you on the dining room table, like we agreed on." She turned and left the bathroom. I cleaned up all of the makeup and took the makeup box out to the kitchen.

I set the box on the dining room table. "Thanks again for the stuff, and for spending some time with me." I smiled. "I had a lot of fun."

"I had fun too." Hannah picked up the box. "Cam will be spending the night with me." "Just a heads up."

I nodded. "Yeah, that's totally cool." "He's your fiancé after all."

Hannah walked out the front door and locked the door behind her.

I relaxed. All that smiling and trying to be super cheerful was exhausting. I sat down at the dining room table to look through the bag she had left.

A container of makeup remover wipes, a tube of red lipstick, a four color palette of eyeshadow and an eyeliner pencil.

"Well at least I get a taste of home." I gathered up all of the makeup and carried it to the bathroom.

"I guess it'll be fun looking ok again." I laughed in the mirror. "Maybe I'll try to look a little cute for Cameron." I stood there looking at my face. It was pretty pale because I never got any time in the sun. I had dark circles under my eyes because sleeping on the couch didn't actually get me very well rested.

I guess one good thing about being held captive with Cameron is that he has seen me at my absolute worst. I had always felt this need to try and impress guys with my looks. With Cameron, he liked me even when I was sickly and covered in bruises. I didn't feel the need to try hard to impress him.

If Cameron and I ever got out of this and he could divorce Hannah, I'd love to have future with him. But in this moment that was a large if.
