"You sleep well?" Cameron wrapped his arm around my waist.

I took a sip of my coffee. "As well as I could have, I guess."

Cameron rubbed my back. "I know, it's probably going to get a lot worse before it gets any better."

"It's just so strange." I glanced out the window.

"What's strange?" He played with a lock of my hair.

"Being free." I turned around to face him. "Like, I've been free for a few months in the hospital but it never sunk in until now." I kissed him gently on the lips. "Like, I can kiss you and not worry about the consequences."

I walked over to the window and took another sip of my coffee. "I can look at a window with no bars on it." I placed my hand on the cool glass. "It's almost scary."

"But think of all the things we can do now." Cameron massaged my shoulders.

"Like what?" "We can't really leave the apartment unless we want the reporters to find us."

"True, but we can be together." "We are free to cuddle on the couch and binge watch our favorite shows." "We're free to cook and eat together."

I poked his chest. "You mean free for me to cook." I set my coffee mug down on the dining room table and wrapped my arms around his neck. "I haven't seen Mr. Cameron Dallas do much cooking."

He smiled. He kissed me on the nose. "Well, there's plenty of time for you to teach me."

I rested my head on his shoulder. I stood there in his arms, hopelessly wishing for it to be true. I wanted so desperately for it to be true that we had this powerful, new found sense of freedom. But it simply wasn't.

Sure, the physical barriers had been lifted. We no longer had to fear an abusive captor who could flip and attack at any moment, but we still couldn't live. We were shut in a small one bedroom apartment in a city neither of us was familiar with. Reporters were searching with a vigilance for us, hoping to get a statement from us before the trial.

We were the stars of news hour. Every news channel and magazine had our faces on it. "Small town girl found being held captive with famous YouTuber, Cameron Dallas" "Cameron and Kate, are the relationship rumors true?" "Held captive for 8 months, the full story of the Dallas kidnapping."

Funny, in most of those stories, I was merely an afterthought. I had just happened to be kidnapped with Cameron. No one even knew I had been missing other than a group of people back home. Outside of Kent County, Delaware no one knew my name.

The only recognition I got in all of those stories and news features was some mysterious new love or the mystery girl. The only thing they mentioned about me was that I spent time in the hospital and that I had signed the infamous marriage certificate.

If we're honest, the police handling the original case almost got more publicity than I did. How could they have not investigated it more? Why was it brushed under the rug that Cameron Dallas got married suddenly when he hadn't been seen or really heard from in months? Was it an inside job; some conspiracy theorists threw out.

Sure I could lay there on the plush couch in our small living room, sure I could watch season after season of Friends with the man I loved, but my mind was anything but quiet. I was drowning in all the thoughts of what now?

I sat there, twirling my silver ring around my finger over and over again. I wonder if Hannah's still wearing hers in prison.

I took a deep breath and rested my head on Cameron's chest. He wrapped his arm around me a little tighter and I slowly drifted off.
