Mila walked slowly into her house feeling drained. The day had been tough and it was days like today that, even though she loved her job, left her exhausted physically and emotionally ready to break down. One of her clients who was so young, only 15 years old, would not listen to reason and ended up getting violent towards their mother during their family session. The teen had been taken out of the home and sectioned by the police which meant they would definitely be getting hospitalized. She knew she had so much work to do and couldn't even begin to think of where to start. Mila felt spent and found herself questioning her second career path. Looking at the clock on her phone she groaned, she was due to be at Mike's house ten minutes ago and she had two missed calls.
"Hey, I've been waiting for you," Mike said as he picked up his phone as she returned his missed calls. Mila rubbed her face feeling her emotions come over her as she began to cry. "Camila, what's wrong?"
"I just had a really, really shitty day. Well, more of a really horrific last session," She cried leaning back onto her couch putting her feet up on her coffee table. "I seriously feel like I am a failure. I went to art school and couldn't do shit for work so I left that field for one I fell in love with. Then today my client attacks her mom during the family session after I couldn't de-escalate them. What the fuck am I doing? What good did I do besides calling the cops?"
Mike listened to her feeling his heart hurt for her. He knew she wasn't a failure. She was damn good at her job, he's heard her on the phone and saw pictures she brought home that her clients made her. He also knew her job wasn't easy and times like these that were difficult for her because of how many emotions she takes on from her clients. "Camila, you're not a failure. Think of how bad it could have been if you weren't there. You were at least there to help with what you could. You prevented it from getting worse by calling the cops. You can't stop everything from happening and I'm sure that mother is thankful that you were there to help."
"I guess," She sighed wiping her eyes. "I know I'm suppose to go to your house but I'm just done. I can't even think right now."
"Do you want me to come over there?" He asked already picking his keys up from the bowl by the door and walking out into the early evening.
"No, it's okay. I'm probably just going to eat some cookies and try to de-stress from my day."
"Okay," He said waiting to get into his car until they hung up. He knew she was going to say that and he already had a plan on how to try to make her day better. "Will you call me later?"
Mila agreed that she would and they hung up. With a heavy sigh she stood up from the couch moving into her room to change out of her work clothes and into her pajamas shorts and tank top. She had every intention of eating something but she just wasn't hungry so instead she put on the Princess Bride and laid down on the couch. She was about 20 minutes into the movie when her doorbell rang. Groaning softly, she dragged herself to the door finding Mike on the other side with a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a bag in the other.
"What are you doing here?" Mila asked surprised moving to the side to let him in.
"You had a shit day and as your," Mike paused realizing that they still didn't have a title yet as to what they were. Mila raised a brow as she shut the door waiting for the rest of his response and what he was to her. "Pre-boyfriend slash best friend slash handsome male pal?" Mila gave a weak chuckle as she nodded. "I am here to help you de-stress." She took the flowers he offered her smelling them. She couldn't help but smile as she did so. "I think we are off to a good start."
"This is just the start?" She asked earning a nod. "Is the rest in the bag?"
"Patience, Cams, patience," Mike laughed wrapping his arm around her placing a kiss to her head. "How about you go put those in water and then we will find out what else I have with me."
