"Hey, do you believe in heaven and hell?"

Who...

"No," I answered without even batting an eye. The girl chuckled and turn to look at the altar before us.

Why...are we in the temple?

"Oh I forgot, you don't believe in deities."

Deities? Does she mean the fictional personas that people believe to be gods?

"Yes, I don't believe in such foolishness." I tried to get a clearer look of her face but it was blurred out. The only thing I can see was the smile on her lips that doesn't seem to resemble fondness nor distaste. Instead, it resembles pity.

"But it is the deities' wills that brought us both blessings and misfortune," She continued.

"No," I disagreed. "It is our actions that brought upon those consequences. Our 'blessings' are brought by our hard work and good deeds. And the misfortune we face is due to our own faults and sins."

"That's right," she smiled amusedly. "But..." her smile turned to frown before turning to me, "... what distinguish bad from good? Who decided that 'good' means following the rules and 'bad' means against the rules? Where does the rules come from?"

I...wasn't able to answer her questions. I remain silent and decided to gaze at the huge marble statue of a lady they referred to as the 'Supreme Deity' -the one they believed to manipulate fate.

"Hey," I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turn back to the girl beside me. "Don't you think we suffer from our sins...because it is against someone's will?"

"ETHAN DASHIELL!"

"Gah!"

It's true that I was spacing out during his lecture. I can't help it. I've already heard it countless times that it's starting to bore me.

"I'm sor-----"

"Sorry?

And there he goes again-lecturing me. Just quit it and say that I piss you off because I always accompany the female students that you call alone. I know what you're up to, you disgusting man. Nakakalungkot at may asawa't anak ka pa namang babae.

"Dashiell! Lumayas ka sa klase ko! Detention Room, Now!"

"I see, so that's how you end up here, huh?" sabi ni Sir Iklies habang hawak-hawak ang kanyang baba. His lackluster eyes gaze down as if trying to think of something.

Sir Iklies is our history teacher. He's quite a mysterious man.

But that's not what made him mysterious. He was mysterious because nobody really knows if he's a human or a supernatural creature.

My guess? He's definitely not human.
