I woke up with the blinding sun rays passing through my slightly opened window. The light rays were penetrating my skin and sending warmth as if stimulating my senses. Squinting, I tried to get up from my bed and pushed my back to lean against the headboard.

It's a brand new day.

Napatingin ako sa nakapatong na cellphone sa ibabaw ng kama ko. A smile escaped from my lips when I saw a text message.

From: Wendy

Good morning! 😊

I quickly got up as soon as I read the message. I took a quick shower and put on casual clothes. Kinuha ko ang gitara ko bago ako lumabas ng kwarto.

"Oh, iho. Saan punta mo ngayon? May gig kayo?" my mother, Karyl Castillo asked me when she saw me downstairs.

Napatingin ako sa salas. Dad was there sitting before a coffee table with a newspaper on his hand. My sister, Athena was at the couch browsing some fashion magazines and Ate Hera was sitting beside her in front of her laptop.

It's an ordinary summer day and we're miraculously complete. Madalas naman kaseng may kanya-kanyang inaasikaso sina Dad at ang kapatid ko kaya madalang lang sila dito. But now...mukhang nagkasabay-sabay ang rest day nila.

I grinned at my mom and brushed my tousled hair out of a habit. "Nope. I'm actually going for a drive"

"With whom?" 

"With Wendy, of course" I answered. I saw how Ate Hera's forehead crinkled when she looked at me. 

"Eros, do you really—"

Lumapit ako sa may stand na katabi ng couch at kinuha ang susi ng kotse na mukhang naiwan ko doon kagabi. I turned to Dad as I played the keys with my hands.

"I gotta use your gift now, Dad" I said. Bumaling naman ako kay Ate Hera at ngumiti. "...and yes, I do like her. No question with that"

These past few months had been quite hard. Things weren't that easy to handle. I remember meeting Catherine's mom while I'm on my way home months ago and since then...I'm...not sure with everything anymore.

She'd asked me for a favor.

She's almost crying her heart out when she told me the reasons...why Cath had left...and why I need to see her then. She wanted me to talk to her daughter and convinced her to continue her chemotherapy.

When I found out that Catherine has been suffering from chronic leukemia...I didn't actually know how to react. Naging malinaw sa akin ang lahat. Cath had left me because of her sickness. Sabi ng mama niya...ayaw daw kaseng ipaalam sa akin ni Cath ang tungkol sa sakit niya. Besides...may nag-impluwensya raw sa desisyong iyon ni Catherine.

Si Shane. Her bestfriend when she was still in the Philippines.

I know...I know that Shane likes me. Pero hindi ko akalain na aabot siya sa ganon. Alam kong pinilit niyang impluwensyahan ang desisyon ng kaibigan niya para magkahiwalay na kami.

That made me mad.

For two years...I've been looking for traces of Catherine. My world seemed to crashed when she left me before but somehow...I'd still hoped to see her. That's why I tend to follow Wendy since the day we met.

That day...

The truth was...the first time I laid my eyes on her...I didn't know why my heart suddenly beats that fast. A warm euphoric feeling enveloped me for some reason that I'd almost shrieked in surprised.
