Your Point of View

The next morning I am woken by the sound of cries. I begin to sit up, barely awake. I expect Levi to gently push me back down, telling me he'll get the baby.

I see him across the room changing Kuchel's diaper. She kicks her legs at him, her hands dancing in the air above her face.

I almost trip over my feet as I cross the room, carefully lifting Hajime out of his crib.
"Good morning," Levi says, his eyes still on Kuchel as he busily straps her diaper in place.

"Good morning, my love. Did you sleep well?" I respond, cradling Hajime as I crawl back in bed. I lean against the headboard and feed him before I feed Kuchel.

I push the little ones in a stroller through HQ, making my way down to the dining room to get breakfast while Levi works in his office.

I find the other recruits busily talking and eating away, a group of new faces standing out amongst the old, remaining ones. I feel a gentle touch on my shoulder and I turn around to Erwin, who is smiling gently.

"Hello, (Y/n). It's good to see you alive and well."

"Thank you, Captain. I could say the same."

"Nonsense, call me Erwin. You're not on duty."

I grin as I nod. "Alright, Erwin." I test. It's weird saying his name since I was never off duty around him. But we are close friends and it feels appropriate.

"Now, I don't think I've had a chance to formally introduce myself to the little ones."

"I'm sure they'd be happy to meet you. Who knows? Maybe someday you'll be uncle Erwin to them." I lightly nudge him as I speak and his cheeks grow pink.

"Uncle Erwin? Well, now, uh, that's the sweetest thing... Anyway!" He flusteredly waves the thought away and rounds the stroller, ducking his head to look inside.

He stares at the babies for a moment, his mouth twitching into a slight smile. He reaches a large hand in, his finger delicately touching Kuchel's cheek. She doesn't stir.

"Would you like to hold her?" I ask him.

"What if I drop her?"

"You won't drop her. I promise. Just cradle her." I say, gently pulling her out of the stroller. I place her in his arms. She awakes, but surprisingly she doesn't utter a peep as she opens her eyes wide.

He seems reluctant to be near her, after hearing Levi's strict warning earlier yesterday when we first arrived. But as she settles in his arms, her tiny hands reaching from within her blanket and dancing around above her, he seems to calm.

He curls his arm around her, letting his other hand free. He reaches up, touching her tiny hand with his large finger. Immediately she grasps onto it, Erwin's eyes widening

"Wow, she's so strong." He says, disbelief in his voice.

"Erwin, have you ever seen a baby before?" I ask him, my tone gentle.

"Well, I have. But never up close."

"I can't tell." I comment, observing his care and gentleness.

Later on, after we get word that the nursery window has been replaced we head home. I trot along the dirt path on my horse, Levi trailing along behind me. I can tell he has a lot on his mind.

"The MP are stopping by this evening. They want to question us on the incident." Levi says.

"Alright. I was wondering if someone would come by."
