It had been a week since Shiro's death. A week since the paladins had last felt complete. A week since the last time the black lion had seen it's master. Slowly but surely, all of the paladins had started to get over it. All but one....
It hurt him so much.
It hurt him to walk into the dining room and see a chair empty.
It hurt him to go on a small mission and not have the black lion by their side.
And most of all, it hurt him to not have someone to comfort him when he was feeling down.
Keith couldn't stop thinking about it. The memory would replay in his head like a broken record that he couldn't stop. He had tried to get his mind off it, but nothing seemed to work. Cooking with Hunk didn't work, learning with Pidge didn't work, cleaning with Coran didn't work and talking with Allura and Lance didn't work. Eventually Keith figured out the best way to get the thoughts out of his mind for a bit. Training. Not just any training. Training at stupidly hard levels until he passed out from exhaustion. Sure it wasn't healthy, but it distracted him for a while.
Keith walked into the kitchen where all the other paladins were. He grabbed a bowl of food goo and sat down at the counter, blocking out everyone's talking around him.
No one seemed to notice Keith come in apart from Lance. He watched as the red paladin picked at his food, barely eating any of it.
Lance was worried about Keith. He had noticed that Keith looked a lot slimmer. Dangerously slim actually. Also Keith couldn't hide the huge bags under his eyes, proving that he hadn't slept in at least a week. Lance walked over to Keith and sat down next to him.
"You okay?" Lance tried to make his speech seem as genuine as possible, knowing that sometimes he would joke about things like this and he didn't want Keith mistaking the question for a joke.
It seemed as if Keith didn't notice at first. He carried on staring at his food, no change in his movement. But then Keith opened his mouth as if he was about to speak and before Keith had said anything, he closed his mouth again, staring at his food.
"Look Keith, we are all here for you when you need it. But we can't help you if we don't know when you are hurting. You know that, right?"
Keith just gave Lance a small nod and then stood up. He left his bowl, still filled with food goo, on the table and walked out. Lance wished he could help Keith, but Keith wasn't very good at talking about his problems. Lance knew Keith was sad, he just needed Keith to admit it himself. Keeping that thought fresh in his mind, Lance got up and walked after Keith.
Keith's P.O.V
I walked into the training room and grabbed my blade.
"Begin training sequence level 7!" I shouted, knowing that this level was a challenging one. It would be even harder seeing as I hadn't eaten or slept in a while. I got in a fighting stance as a training robot dropped down from the ceiling.
I began swinging at it, trying my best to dodge all of the attacks that we thrown at me. I was doing well so far, that's when things started to go down hill.
The lack of sleep had started getting to me again. I felt the grip on my blade weaken as I kept slashing the robot with all my might.
The robot started to easily get hits on me, creating and replacing bruises from past days. My swings were starting to get sloppy and my vision began to blur. That's when I heard a shout from the door.
"End training sequence!"
I looked over to see Lance running towards me. I was both mad and grateful. Part of my mind wanted to keep fighting but the other part wanted me to stop and take a break.
"Keith! What are you doing here?! You can't just start training when you are clearly in no fit state to do so!" I was only half paying attention to Lance's words as he felt I body beginning to sway back and forth. I was praying that I wouldn't fall on top of Lance and instead I would fall backwards. My praying was useless.
My body leaned forward again, but this time, it didn't lean back. I found myself falling right into Lance's chest, feeling super awkward about the situation. Lance didn't over react or anything. Instead he brought me into a hug.
"Why are you doing this to yourself Keith? You don't eat, you don't sleep. All you do is train!"
I wanted to deny it but it was all true. I just wanted to get Shiro off of my mind. I hated always thinking about the way I could've died instead. Or the ways I could've prevented this whole thing in the first place. Before I knew it tears had started pouring down my face. I hugged Lance close, feeling like I never wanted to be alone again.
I-I just want Shiro back" I sobbed, struggling to get the words out.
"Oh Keith..." Lance started rubbing circles on my back. "We all do. But he did this for us. For you. He wouldn't want you doing this to yourself. That's not why Shiro did it"
I knew Lance was right, but I was having trouble accepting it. Soon I would have to start leading Voltron properly. How am I going to do that if I can't even stand up on my own right now!
I felt a small smile creep onto my face. I was still crying but Lance made me feel safe and warm. I closed my eyes and nuzzled my face into Lance's chest, the same way I used to do with Shiro. Lance was just as cosy as Shiro. Maybe even cosier.
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
I must've fallen asleep while standing there with Lance. Because next thing I knew I was lying in my bed, something warm against my back. I turned around, only to find Lance next to me.
He had his arms wrapped around my waste. He was asleep but he had a smile across his face. I admired his face for a while, looking at his perfectly shaped eyebrows and his clean healthy skin. I never really realised how cute he looked....
Lance looked so relaxed I decided not to wake him up. Part of me wanted to get up but at the same time Lance was so warm. Soon I realised I didn't have any other choice than to stay as I might wake Lance if I tried to move.
I snuggled down so my face was buried in Lance's chest. My face felt hot for some reason. I couldn't figure out why.
I felt myself slowly drifting off to sleep.
I may not have Shiro anymore....
But at least I have you....
Ayyyyeee that was a good one to write. We got some Klance up in here. I hope you liked the chapter! The next one will 100% be the part 2 to the 'Touch' chapter. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed!
