Keith was a merman. Not just any type of merman, an orphan merman. His mum had abandoned him when he was just a baby and his dad had got captured above the sea. Well, that's what they had told Keith anyway. Keith knew there was more to the story. He could just tell. That was probably the reason why Keith wanted to go up on the shore. He wanted to meet a human and find out what happened to his dad himself. No one was allowed above the water because of the risk of humans finding them. However, during the night Keith would swim up to the surface and watched the coast. A tanned, brown hair boy would walk along the beach sometimes and Keith would watch him. Keith had a MASSIVE crush on this guy, but he couldn't approach him with a tail. He didn't plan to. However, plans aren't always the things that end up happening...

Third P.O.V

It was just another normal night of Keith up on the surface. His body was pulled up onto a slanted rock and he was leaning on his elbows, admiring the view. He watched with fascinated eyes as his crush wondered across the beach, picking up shells. The boy admired the shells before slipping them into his pocket, or throwing them into the ocean. The boy carried on walking and accidentally tripped on a rock, face-planting the sand. Once Keith could see that the boy was alright, he let out a small giggle and a light blush came across his face. He wished he could talk to this boy.

The waves began growing behind Keith, slowly starting to reach the tip of his ruby-coloured tail. Keith was too distracted to realise it though. He was giggling at the boy who stood up and brushed himself off, cursing under his breath.

Suddenly, before Keith could react, a wave swallowed him from behind, pulling him into the ocean. The current was too strong and it was slowly dragging him into the shore. Keith thrashed about, trying so hard to escape from the wave. But just as Keith was about to break free his head smashed against a rock, making him feel dizzy. His vision started to blur as he gave into the current.

Soon Keith felt sand touching the tip of his tail. The water was getting shallower. Keith's mind was too fuzzy for him to move so he just let it take him. He ended up lying against the cold sand, his eyes slowly beginning to close. Just before he lost consciousness, he spotted a figure run towards him, right before everything went black.

"—Are you oka— —ello? Can you hear m— I said can you hear me?"
Keith groaned in pain, the voice making his his headache worse. He opened his eyes, only to see his crush, the boy from the beach, standing over him.

"Good you opened your eyes. Are you okay?" The boy said, giving Keith a worried look that made Keith want to kiss the boy all over. Instead he just lay there, trying not to panic. He had been spotted by a human. The boy waited for a response but when nothing came, he asked again.

"Helloooo~? Are you okay?"

"U-uh yeah I'm fine" Keith replied, turning over into his back and leaning on his elbows. Keith was so confused about why the boy hadn't acknowledged his tail.

"Okay cool now WHY DO YOU HAVE A TAIL!?!" the boy shouted, gesturing to Keith's tail. Ah, so he had realised.

"P-please don't hurt me. I was just looking at yo- I MEAN THE BEACH and I got a little too close that's all!" Keith spoke, turning into a flustered mess at his mistake.

"WAIT WAIT WAIT ARE YOU TELLING ME YOU ARE ACTUALLY A MERMAID!?" The boy shouted, making Keith's headache pulse. Keith put his hands over his ears for a few seconds, trying to get rid of the headache. He managed to calm it down a little so he started explaining.
