Third P.O.V
"It's been an honour flying with you all"
(yeah, you know what's coming ;))
When the explosion hit, Keith didn't expect the impact the effect him mostly. The head of Voltron had been a little closer so that made sense. As his lion went down, he knew what was coming. His lion was facing straight down, meaning he wouldn't survive.
He was okay with it, though.
He tried to move his lion but black wasn't moving.
"It's okay black, you deserve rest" He said, smiling softly.
He thought about what the paladins would think after he died. Would they even survive? He hoped they would. He wanted them to go on to live a nice life without him.
He hoped Shiro would find another lover.
He hoped Lance would get his dream to be with Allura.
He hoped Allura and Coran would implement Altean technology into the Garrison's creations.
He hoped Pidge would continue to make amazing technology herself.
He hoped Hunk would keep cooking and making people happy with his meals.
He hoped Krolia wouldn't be too sad over his death. She'd already lost her partner, after all.
Keith was starting to get closer to the ground. He felt himself starting to tear up.
This was his time to go, he'd accepted that.
He just hoped no one would be too sad.
"Goodbye Voltron..." He said, letting out a small sob.
Just a few more seconds.
"Goodbye everyone.."
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
(I'm not crying you're crying)
"I'm sorry Voltron but... your leader didn't make it"
Those words hit the team like a train. They'd thought they had all made it out alive. They'd thought everything was okay and that they could all live happily.
They never expected this.
Shiro started tearing up.
Pidge and Hunk started crying.
Lance and Allura were on the verge of breaking down.
Krolia was sobbing.
They were all a mess. They wanted their black paladin back.
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
On the day of Keith's funeral, no one was ready. They didn't want to say goodbye to their leader. They didn't know if they could. They had all gathered at Shiro's house to prepare.
"I-I can't believe he's gone.." Lance said, putting his shoes on.
"He shouldn't be gone" Shiro mumbled, his voice cracking.
"It's not fair. He did so much for the universe o-only f-for it t-to..." Hunk couldn't finish his sentence. Thinking about it made him want to start crying again.
"I-I guess that's just the world..." Pidge said, putting a ribbon in her hair.
There was a knock at the door.
Shiro answered it, only to see Krolia standing in front of him. Her eyes were red and puffy, obviously from crying. She felt so alone without Keith. Everyone had someone except her. In a way she felt like she deserved it. After all, Keith had been in the same spot years ago.
"Are you all ready?" She asked, wiping her eyes for what felt like the 100th time. Shiro gave her a small smile.
"Yeah, we're ready"
They all began walking to the funeral in silence. That was until someone broke the silence.
"T-This doesn't feel right" Allura spoke, looking down at the ground.
"I k-know what you mean Allura. He shouldn't b-be gone" Lance said. Krolia let out a sigh before smiling a little.
"J-Just think of it this way" Krolia said. "Keith's probable s-spending time with his father right now. He's missed him for so long and he can finally be with him. We'll see him again"
She looked up to the sky, tears in her eyes. She imagined Keith and his dad sitting at a table and just... talking to each other. They'd talk about what Keith had accomplished. They'd talk about everyone Keith had met.
They might have even talked about Krolia herself.
Of course Krolia was sad. She'd been excited to see her son and spend time with him. She'd been excited to make up for all those years they spent apart. She'd been excited for all of it.
But it was okay. She'd just have to wait.
"He'd want us to live out best lives. He wouldn't want us to cry over him" She said, wiping her tears yet again.
"You're right" Shiro said, wiping his tears too.
Sure, they'd miss Keith a lot. But they'd never forget him.
I'm sorry it's short but it's hard to write a one shot about someone after they've died. I hope you don't mind. I like writing angst every once in a while. Especially when it makes me cry myself. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed!
