MORE Kissing and Surving

When Liam and Marisa left, I sat next to Harry on the grass. “This sucks.” I said.
    “Yea it does.” Harry responded.
“Is it bad that I’m kind of a little bit happy? Not that Louis is dead, or that your burnt, or that I’m burnt, or that Marisa’s ear is janked up, or that Liam is...well, there’s probably something wrong with him, but that it’s not all over?”
Harry looked confused, “That what’s not over?”
“This. I don’t want to go back to school and sit through classes of math, and science, and english. I don’t want to go back to being normal.”
Harry laughed, “Kayla Thomas, you will never be normal.”
I smiled. “Well I know THAT, but I could still live a normal life.”
Harry nodded, “Yea I get it. I feel the same way. But at least when...if...we get back we’ll be able to be together.”
    I grinned, “That’s true.”
It happens just like that. One minute your talking, having a completely normal conversation and then your just tangled together, gently, of course, because of our burns, but together.
And the kisses that you share send effects through your body like no other thing on earth can give you.
And you know, you just know, that no body else will ever be able to give you that effect. The effect of fire and shiver and longing and love.
When the other person touches you as gently and softly as Harry touched me, you can understand just how amazing and unforgettable the feeling is. You can understand how if the person ever left you you wouldn’t be able to go on living because it just wouldn’t be right.
But after a while Harry’s whimpers of happiness that escaped his mouth turned to groans of pain and I made us stop kissing.
    “Just rest.” I demanded him.
    “I-I can’t.” He stuttered.
    “Why not?”
“I’m afraid that if I wake up you’ll be dead again. I still feel like you are.”
“Well I’m not, got it? So go to sleep.”
    He went to sleep.

After a bit more of walking, Liam spotted a plant that he said healed minor burns. It wouldn’t be enough, we both knew, but it was better than nothing. We didn’t really talk about what happened, but I felt closer to him than before. We headed back to Harry and Kayla and saw that Harry was laying asleep in the sand and Kayla was trying to put together a fire by banging two rocks together.
“This is impossible!” She huffed, putting the rocks down. “Did you find a good plant?”
“This one might help a little, and Harry needs all the help he can get,” Liam said. He sat next to Harry and ripped up the green plant into little pieces. The inside was filled with green goo, and he lightly smeared some on Harry’s face, arms, and legs. Harry’s eyes slowly opened.
“That feels much better,” He said, stretching his arms and sitting up.
“Good, but you still look horrible,” Kayla said, matter of factly.
“Gee, thanks,” Harry said, the pain slowly returning.
“So, what are we going to do for food? Or surviving?” I ask, concerned.
“There are probably more plants around here,” Liam said.
“So Harry can rest, Marisa can look for water, Liam for plants, me for fruit or something,” Kayla said.
“I don’t know if splitting up is such a good idea,” I raise my eyebrow at Kayla.
“It is,” She objected. “You just want to be with Liam.”
That was true, but I didn’t say anything.

Liam went back into the forest, Marisa to the left, and me to the right. I stayed after Liam and Marisa for a bit, after Harry shot me a look.
I knew what was coming. “How come all I do it sit here? I can do something.”
I smiled at him, “I know, but you’re still pretty burned, Harry. Just rest for today ok? Tomorrow you can do whatever.”
“Fine,” Harry said, and I turned on my heel, “Hey, be careful.”
I grinned, “Harry I’m never careful.”
He sighed, “I know, but it was worth a shot.”
I laughed and walked away. I went to the right of the jungle, not really knowing where to go.
It was full of bugs. I hate bugs, so it was even worse than the plane crash, for me. The creepy crawlers were everywhere. Spiders, scorpions, beetles, everything.
I was not eating any bugs. Reluctantly, I went deeper into the jungle. I came across berry bush and squealed with delight. I was about to pop one into my mouth when I stopped.
I’d have to ask Liam if they were safe to eat first. I took off my sweatshirt, leaving me in my blue T-shirt, and stuffed some berries into it. Then I kept walking.
    We need meat, I thought. But I wasn’t a hunter. I didn’t know how to...OMG!
Right it front of me, and I mean right in front of me, was a monkey. A real, live monkey.
You are not eating a monkey! I screamed at myself. But how to get away from it?
“Hi, monkey. Good, monkey. Good, good, good monkey. I’m going around you now, ok?”
I took one step forward, and the monkey went insane. It jumped right on top of me and I screamed as it pulled my hair. “GET OFF OF ME!” I yelled.
Yeah, because that’s gonna help. How did Marisa kill the gorilla? Those are like the kings of monkeys! Well, she had a gun.
I let out a sound of pain as it scratched one of my burns, and lost it. I began to run around in circles, screaming at the top of my lungs. I didn’t care about the bugs anymore, I just wanted this messed up creature off of me.
I began to run straight, I think. The world was a mix of orange monkey fur and my long brown hair. I ran and ran, screaming and crying out in pain each time the monkey scratched me, pulled my hair, or, in a few cases, bit me. I felt blood on my face and moaned.
Keep running, I thought. Run, run, run. I began to sprint, full speed until I felt myself run into something very hard. I flew backward onto my back and felt as the monkey took flight as well, hitting the ground a few feet behind me.
A tree! I ran into a frickin tree! I rubbed my head, trying to get the dizziness to fade, when I remembered the monkey. I shot up and ran away from it, hoping it had serious brain damage and couldn’t follow me.
Whoever said they wanted a monkey as a pet was really insane.

The small stream was easy to find, which was a relief. I wished Liam was with me. Then, I tried to figure out how to get the water. We didn’t have any bottles. Then, I heard a screech a few yards away. It had to be Kayla’s.
“Oh, a water bottle!” I said and pointed to a dirty soda can on the floor. Kayla had to be fine, because the screaming stopped. Or maybe she was dead. I’m going to stick with the first thing.
Looking at the can suddenly freaked me out. This means someone else was on this island. What if we died here? Just when we are almost home? I knew I couldn’t cry and began to scoop up water into the can. I drank from the stream itself, trying to save water, and washed my face. Then I headed back to Harry.
“Hey, did you find water?” He asks, still cringing in pain.
“Yeah, there’s a stream nearby. And I found this can. I kneeled down next to him. “Hey, I’m not a doctor or anything but do you think putting water on your burns would help? I mean, Liam will probably find more leaves but we need something more.”
    “Um, I don’t know if that’s a good idea...AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!”
The water literally made a sizzling sound as it hit Harry’s skin. He pulled his hand back and swore at me. “What are you doing?!”
“Oopsies. I didn’t mean for THAT to happen,” I mumbled. “It didn’t do that when we were looking for Kayla.
He rolled his eyes at me. “Oh, really.” Then his eyebrow turned upwards and I laughed at how funny he looked because the only remains of his eyebrow was a few little hairs. “Wait, that feels better now. I guess that was because I was already in so much pain I didn’t notice.”
“Yay. I helped.” I stand up. “We have to figure out a signal for planes to find us. I mean, someone will find us, right?”
“Yeah, they will,” Harry assured me. “Right?”
“Ummmhhhmm.” I said, because really I was starting to think that the answer was no.
