Liam and Marisa didn’t stay with us. They said that they were “going on a walk” around the boat. Devin ran straight for bathroom the minute we got up the stairs and Jean sighed and said, “I better go help him,” and Gage followed.
Me and Harry glanced at each other, then quickly looked away.
I shifted back and forth and said, “Well. I’m gonna go look for edible food.”
“What?” Harry asked, turning to me, “We just got waffles.”
“Yeah. I don’t really consider that edible.” I walked away from him, down the hall, back down the stairs, made a left, walked straight, made a right, made another left and then found myself not at a kitchen, sadly, but I did find all of the kidnappers drinking their guts out and playing 21 at a poker table.
I crouched behind a nearby couch and listened.
A brown guy said to Ginger, “Tim, what we gonna do when we get there?”
Tim responded to brown guy, “Give em to the boss and let him do what he wants.”
“What’s that gonna be?” Blondie asked.
Tim sighed, “I dunno. He might use them for entertainment for the locals who’ll pay him. Or sell the girls, they pretty enough. Use the boys for the fields. Whatever the hell he wants.”
Blondie shifted, “I was thinking...maybe we could keep em. Use em for ourselves.”
“Nuh-uh. Boss pays us way more than we could make off of em.” Tim the Ginger answered.
Suddenly Ginger’s cold blue eyes flew to the couch that I was crouching behind. “Boys,” he said, “We have company.”
Crap.
They all stood up and began to slowly walk towards the couch.
I jumped up and began to sprint for the door but Blondie caught me. Tim grabbed my arms and helped him, and together they pushed me onto a wooden chair.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“Spying is rude, little girl.” Blondie said.
“So is kidnapping.” I answered, my voice surprisingly strong.
Ginger sighed. “She ain’t gonna do what boss says. Maybe we should just get rid of her now. He wanted two boys, he wouldn’t know if we killed off one of the girls. Doesn’t even know there are girls.”
Blondie nodded, “I agree.”
He pulled out a knife and I flinched. “Hey, now, hey now, calm down. I’ll...I’ll try to listen, okay? How’s that?” I asked, and even I could hear the desperateness in my voice.
“Trying ain’t good enough, missy.”
The knife touched my arm.
I closed my eyes and screamed, not wanting to see the blood coming out. I panicked, and began to squirm around like a maniac in my chair. “LIAM! MARISA! JEAN! DEVIN! GAGE!” I called out, my voice breaking a lot, “HARRY!”
“We on the other side of the boat girl. They aint gonna hear you.” Blondie said, but just as the words left his mouth he slid to the floor, unconscious. Not that I saw. My eyes were still closed.
But I heard the thump as he his body hit the ground.
I heard screaming and shouting and yelling and finally opened my eyes to see three kidnappers on the ground, Blondie and two brunettes.
