Devin appeared in the doorway, a dark shilloute against the white walls. His wounds were cleaned up, his hair brushed back, and he looked good as new. He smiled at us.
“I told you that you should just obey, Kayla. It would have been so much easier.” He purred.
Anger and fear both surged through me. “Rot in hell.” I spat.
Devin just laughed. “Me? In hell? But oh, darling, it looks to me as if you are the one who’s in hell. Have you looked in a mirror lately?”
He moved closer to me. I saw Liam stand up, but Devin waved him away. “Oh, calm down, will you?” He bent down so close to me that I could feel his breath on my ear, smell his strawberry shampoo. He put his lips so close to my ear that he was practically kissing me. “It’s a shame, really. You could have been so...enchanting. I’ll hate to see you die.”
Liam growled, “She’s not going to die.”
“Oh, but she is.” Devin stood up. “Because me and my dad? We’re not giving you help. And I don’t really think any amount of hay is gonna close those whips up.”
A corner of my mouth went up, and I stood, flinching at the pain but not sitting back down.
“Kayla, I don’t think you should-” Liam started.
“Screw it.” I said, “Standing isn’t gonna make it much worse than it already is.” I leaned so close to Devin that I was touching his chest, and he didn’t pull away. “I feel bad for you.”
“Me?” Devin asked, not being able to hide his surprise, “Why me?”
“No girlfriend. No friends. Just a beastly father and  mother. When I first met you, I thought, hey this guy could get a girlfriend without help from his father. But now I get why girl’s stay away from you. You’re an insane, screwed up, pity boy who needs his father to buy him his girlfriends.”
Devin eyes flared with anger. “You bi-”
“That’s enough!” Liam said, getting in between us. “Why are you here, Devin? Did you come to gloat?”
“Slightly.” Devin spit at him, “But I also have to tell you that my father got a call from the place that he bought you from. Apparently, there’s some rich young couple that’ll spend a ton on you. Don’t even care what shape you’re in.”
“Why are you telling us this?” Liam asked.
“To tell you that my father said he ain’t giving you away if his life depends on it. He wants to see Kayla die and Liam all alone as much as I do.
“Too bad you’ll never be reunited with that boyfriend of yours, Kayla.”
    I blinked.
“Have fun dying,” He called over his shoulder as he left the barn.

When I woke up, we were in another vehicle- but this one was an actual car. There was a pain in my stomach and my ugly dress I still had on had blood dripping from it, but I didn’t care. Where were we?
Harry was sitting next to me, thank God. He was holding an ice pack to his face and had a scowl on his face.
    “What’s going on?” I groaned.
“Oh, your awake,” A man said from the front seat. He had black, messy hair and looked about 30. And he actually looked like a normal person...haven’t seen those in a while. Next to him was sitting a brown haired man with lots of freckles. They both had uniforms and badges and guns, and I realized we were in a cop car.
“Where are we? What’s happening?” I repeated.
“Don’t worry, you’re safe,” The man said. “I’m officer David, and this is my partner Lucas. We got rid of those pirates, don’t worry.”
So that was the gun I heard.
“Are we still on the island?” Harry said. “We were SOLD! To work as slaves!”
“I know, and that’s not legal,” Lucas said. “Don’t worry, this whole island is being shut down. And we know about the people auctions going on. We’re going to try to retrieve everyone that was sold.”
Kayla. Liam. “We have to go to find our friends. They are slaves on Mandlow lane,” I quickly said.
“We’ll get you there soon, but you two need to get to a doctors first...”
“TAKE US THERE NOW!” Harry shouted.
The two officers jerked their heads in surprise.    “Um, okay? That’s not that far away, anyway,” Lucas said.
David sighed and turned onto a street. “We’ll be there in about 10 minutes.”
My stomach felt like it was doing flips as we pulled up to a big farm. This was the address.
Once the car was in park, I lunged forward to get out of the car, but something pulled us back.
    “Seatbelt, Marisa,” Harry said, sighing.
“Right,” I said, and unbuckled the stupid contraption.
I ran up to the front door and rang the doorbell five times. The two officers were right behind me, rolling their eyes. They obviously didn’t understand the situation.
A blonde haired, grey eyed boy who looked a little older than me, maybe sixteen, opened the door. He had bandages his face, and a horrible look on his face.
    “Hello?” He said.
    “Hi, I’m-”
“Please let us come in,” David interjected, showing his badge.
The boy widened his eyes at Harry and I. “Are you two...”
“Open the door, now,” David repeated.
Trembling, the boy opened the door. We stepped into a fairly big house.
“Where are they?” Harry spat at the blonde haired boy.
“Who?” The boy said. “What’s going on?”
“Do you have a parent available?”    Lucas said.
“No, my dad and mom are both at work.”
“Please let us investigate the house,” David said. They brushed past the boy and entered different rooms, guns ready.
I knew what was coming but didn’t react soon enough. Harry threw the blonde guy onto the ground and started punching him. The blonde guy had a good attempt at fighting back, but he wasn’t good enough.
“Hey, what’s going on?” David said, coming back into the room. He pulled Harry away while Lucas got the blonde up.
“What’s your name, son?” Lucas said.
“Sam,” The boy said, but he paused and everyone knew he was lying.
The officers told “Sam” to come with them while they look, and they left Harry and me by ourselves.
“I saw a barn outside,” Harry said. “Let’s go.”
Quietly, we tiptoed out of the house and once we reached the grass started to sprint. My whole body trembled as we stopped in front of the building.
    “It’s locked,” Harry said.
“HIYA!” I said, kicking the door. The wood broke open, and I gasped.
When we entered the room, I ran into his arms and cried. I felt a hand stroking my head.
    “Liam,” I murmured.
“I’m here,” He said, unsteadily. I kissed his lips, and they were perfect. For the first time, I looked at his body, and I cried more. It had a huge slash mark.
“What did they do to you?” I murmured. I looked over to Kayla and tried to hug her, I was so happy, but when I saw her I fell limp.
She was bloody, and I mean EXTREMELY. I wanted to gag.
    “Marisa,” She said.
