“This is bad,” Marisa said.
“Really?” I said, “I haven’t noticed.”
“Not the time for sarcasm, Kayla,” Marisa said.
“Theres’s always a time for sarcasm,” I responded.
“Guys?” Liam said, “My arms kind of broken and Jean kind of sprained my ankle and we’re kind of in forty feet of deep water with no land, so um, don’t you think we should change that?”
“Probably,” I said.
“Okay, well, how?” He answered his voice sounding heavy.
Marisa looked around, “I see land way over there. How far away do you think it is?”
“Um, about a mile,” Harry said.
“I am not swimming a mile,” I said.
“I literally can’t. There’s no way my arm’ll be able to make it that far,” Liam responded.
“Well, one of us should probably stay here with Liam. I’ll do it!” Marisa said.
“Buuuuutttt I don’ttt want to gooooooo,” I whined.
“Kayla, you have to,” Marisa replied.
"No!"
“I’m not going to send Harry alone, sorry Kayla but you’ll have to take one for the team,” Liam said.
“Fine, let’s go,” I said directly at Harry. I began to paddle away without another word.
Harry caught up with me very quickly and we swam in silence. We reached the land a few minutes later and I groaned as we climbed up onto the dock.
“So what are we gonna do?” Harry asked, “We need a way to bring Marisa and Liam over here.”
My eyes landed on something floating in the water a few yards away, “Hey maybe we could-”
“Sssshh I’m trying to think,” he said.
“But-”
“Kayla, shhh.”
“But I-”
“Shhh.”
“Harry Derain shut up and listen to me. Look over there,” I said, pointing.
“Oh. Yeah we could do that.”
“Aren’t you going to congratulate me on coming up with a plan?”
“It wasn’t all that bright anyone could’ve thought of it.”
“Well then why didn’t you?” I said and began to walk over to the boat.
The keys were surprisingly in the engine and Harry started it. Neither of us knew how to drive so the first thing that we did was run into a pole.
“Harry!” I screamed.
“What? Do you wanna try?”
I snorted, “Yeah like you would trust me to drive a boat.”
He shrugged, “True,” and began to drive a little bit more steadily.
We boated back to where Liam and Marisa were treading and helped them on. “Where did you find this?” Marisa asked.
“In the ocean,” I replied.
“No derrr,” Liam said.
“No really it’s true,” I mocked.
“Okay, well what now?” Harry asked and the question hung in the air.
When Liam and I hopped onto the boat, we kind of just sat there.
“Um....” Kayla said. “We could go back to that other island and see if we find a way to get of out here.”
“Hey, there’s an idea,” Harry said. He started the boat back up and drove it back to the other island- not well. We kept swerving back and forth and almost ran into a lot of rocks and hit many little fishies.
“Could you actually drive so we didn’t die?” I asked.
“No,” Harry replied.
We reached the small island soon. I saw people walking around, so that was a good sign. But I was hoping they weren’t freaks that found teens fighting to their death enjoyable.
Harry drove the boat into a small dock with three other boats and turned off the ignition.
“So now what?” Liam asked, looking like he was in pain. I did not enjoy that.
“Let’s try to find, like, a plane or something,” Harry said.
“Found one,” Kayla said, pointing.
We walked off the dock, clothes sopping, and headed towards the bulky thing. It looked rusted and a little bit abonded and unsafe.
“Um...couldn’t we choose something else?” I said.
“Like what? Do you want to get out of here or not?” Kayla said.
“I don’t want to die,” I mumbled.
Harry ignored me and stepped inside the plane. His footsteps echoed against the steel. I saw rats hurry out.
“Okay, no.” I started walking away, but Kayla grabbed my arm.
“It’s on,” Harry yelled. “Come on.”
The inside was even worse. The seats were teared up and there were spider webs everywhere.
“Does anyone know how to fly a plane?” Liam said.
We all looked at each other and I sighed. “No, but I don’t trust any of you so I’ll do it.”
Kayla raised her eyebrow. “Really?”
“Sure?” I said, more like a question. “I mean, we’ve should’ve died by now so why not?”
I sat in the gross pilot seat, Kayla sat next to me, and the guys sat in the back.
Kayla grabbed the intercom and pressed the button. “This is your captain speaking- we will be taking off in one minute so please fasten your seat-belts and keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle.”
“The seat-belts are broken,” Liam yelled.
“Well, deal with it,” She responded. “Over.”
I sighed and put my hands on wheel. “I am going to die.”
“Probably,” Kayla responded.
“Thanks.”
“Okay, so this looks like the ignition thingy,” I said, pointing to one of the buttons out of a billion. They started blinking and I heard hard air outside once I hit the button.
“I think that was right,” Kayla said. “What does this button do?”
“Um....” I said, but too late. She pressed like twenty buttons. I felt the ground lifting under me.
“Lift off,” Kayla said over the intercom.
