We followed the footprints until they came to a stop. They were everywhere, like someone was running in circles.
“They had a fight,” Jean said. “And these tracks are still fresh. We just missed them.”
“Then come on!” I said. My frustration level was at a high right now. “We can follow the rest of the footsteps.”
“They’re washed out by the rain,” Devin said.
“No,” I objected, but I watched as the marks we had just seen washed away.
Liam sighed before turning to Jean. “So, boy scout, what do we do now?”
“How am I supposed to know?” Jean spat.
“Oh,” Liam said, stepping forward. “What? Did you not prepare for this when you kidnapped us? TWO TIMES?!”
“You better back off, you’re acting like a baby” Jean said, pushing against Liam’s chest.
“Who you calling a baby?” He objected. “Aren’t you the one who took Kayla and Marisa to hit on them?!”
“Liam,” I whispered. I reached forward and grabbed his hand. It was hot and tense. “Please stop. Jean, back off. We need to figure out a way to find Harry and Kayla.” I tried to change the subject right away, because my face was burning with embarrassment and I knew they were about to start a fight. Devin and Gage both looked to depressed to do anything but stare. I understood why Liam was so mad, but I think he was taking it a little too far.
“There’s no way to find them,” Devin said. “They’re long gone.”
“No they aren’t!” I screamed at them. “I-” I looked at Liam and squeezed his hand. “-We did not come this far to just give up!”
“Then what do you suggest we do?” Gage said.
I opened and closed my mouth a few times before we heard the engine.
I sprinted towards the sound. Everyone followed. But I wasn’t the fastest, and soon Liam was ahead of me. Branches hit me again and again in the face as I tried to catch a breath and the forest cleared. Soon, we were out of the trees and on the side of a street.
A huge, white truck was speeding away just as we reached it.
“Wait!” I screamed.
Everyone rested their hands on their knees.
I started running, yet again, and even though I was using the energy I didn’t even know I had the truck was getting away.
“Marisa,” Liam shouted to me.
Just then, a red car was passing by. I ran into the middle of the road and yelled, “STOP!”
The car screeched to a stop and I ran to the door of it. A scared looking couple stared at me with panic.
“Hi,” I said politely but fast, “We need to borrow your car it’s a life or death situation thanks!”
Liam helped me pull the man out of the right side and Jean had no trouble getting the lady out of the other. I jumped into the passenger’s seat, Liam at the wheel,Gage, Devin, and Jean hopped in the back.
“Step on it!” I yelled, and we propelled forward.
There was a window in the truck. Me and Harry peered out of it and saw a small red car racing towards us with Liam driving and a wide-eyed Marisa in the passenger seat, seeming to be screaming at the pirates in the back.
