You know how in movies, when the announcer guys screams, “ONE!” people charge at each other screaming? You would think that since we had all been kidnapped together it would be different right? But the minute “one,” came out of Raven’s mouth Jean, Gage, and Devin charged.
I guess that our alliance was over.
I couldn’t see what was happening with Marisa, but I saw as Devin ran straight towards me. He had that stick with spikes and he spun it around like a lasso above his head.
I managed to dodge his first swing, but just barely. I heard a whoosh as it swung by my ear. “What happened to not killing each other!?” I shouted.
Devin shrugged, “Orders from Jean. I gotta listen to him. Sorry.” He didn’t sound all that sorry.
He swung again, and this time he hit me in the shoulder. I let out a small cry of pain and gripped it tightly, blood on my fingers. “Gross,” I murmured.
When I looked up he stood facing me, his blonde hair a mess and his grey eyes wild. “I didn’t want to have to kill you,” he said softly.
He swung near my stomach.
I took a giant leap backwards, missing the spikes by centimeters.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Marisa and Liam fighting Jean and Harry fighting Gage. I wondered how they were doing.
He swung again.
It grazed my shirt and it tore open a giant strip, revealing a long, bright red scratch that wasn’t too deep.
I realized what he was doing, that he was trying to back me up into the volcano but I wasn’t really sure how to get out of it. I raised my knife.
“What are you gonna do, Kayla? Cut me?”
“I’m gonna try.”
I swung the knife forward and he jumped, but not before I got his ankle. I saw the blood come out of his jeans and onto his black high tops and grimaced.
He dropped the spiked ball and leaped at me. I tried to side-step but wasn’t fast enough and he hit me straight on.
We both flew backwards and I panicked as I felt us falling. I reached wildly, looking for something to grab and my hand gripped on something extremely hot.
“Don’t pull back!” Devin screamed.
I looked to my left and saw that he was gripping the same rock next to me, shaking. “Really, don’t.”
I looked down and screamed as I saw my boots hanging above a pool of hot lava. Drips kept flying up and hitting my skin and I whimpered every time that it happened.
“Why not?” I asked, looking at him. “Weren’t you trying to kill me like two seconds ago?”
“Yeah, but I think my wrist is broken and-.”
He chose that exact moment to slip.
Devin reached for my ankles but I swung my legs to the left. He screamed as he fell ad the sound echoed in my ears. I made myself watch as his body hit the lava and his screams died out.
I just killed a boy.
The thought crossed my mind like a sharp knife and I screamed.
“Oh my frickin god I just killed a person!” I screamed.
The rock I was holding onto was really hot. I gripped it tighter, but I still felt like I was slipping. It’s karma, I thought. I killed a person and now I’m gonna have to die the same way.
I wondered who was going to take care of Emmalina as one hand slipped. I screamed at the top of my lungs as my other hand let go, unable to withstand the heat any longer.
The second the terrorist man said “One,” I turned to Liam and ran. I saw out of the corner of my eyes that Devin was going to Kayla and Harry to Gage.
“Guys! Our deal!” Liam shouted as Jean took a huge swing of his sword near his head.
“Forget about it!” Jean shouted. The crowd shouted with excitement.
“No!” I shouted and jabbed my knife at Jean. He jumped backwards.
“Do you really think you can fight me?” He said.
“No,” I replied, shaking. “But I’ll try.”
I swung at him again and managed to cut him near his ribs.
“Ow!” He said.
“Yay,” I said.
“Look out!” Liam shouted.
I turned around just in time to duck under Gage’s giant torch coming down on my head.
I kicked him and he fell to the ground. The volcano sprayed lava on both of our faces. And for a second I couldn’t see in front of me.
I fell backwards and thought I was going to go falling down the volcano, but I felt someone catch me.
I rubbed my pain-filled eyes and saw Liam.
“Thanks,” I said.
“Sure, but look out.”
Harry was falling backwards and before I knew it, he was laying on top of me.
“Please get off,” I said. “This is painful.”
“Oh, sorry,” He said, carefully standing up.
Suddenly, I heard a shout and simmering from the volcano. I turned to see Kayla dangling from a ledge.
“Kayla!” I shouted. I tried to run to her, but Jean stopped me.
“I don’t think so,” He said.
“You’ve been using us,” I replied, dodging his swings. “This whole time. You’ve just been using us to get away.”
“Wow, you finally figured it out. Now we can finally kill you.” He sliced me a little on my arm and I screamed.
“Marisa!” Liam shouted from far away. He sprinted towards me and dog-piled on top of Jean.
“Get off of me!” Jean shouted.
“Noooo!” Liam shouted. It was pretty funny looking.
I started running again towards Kayla, who was starting to slip.
“I’m coming!” I shouted to her.
I sighed when Gage came into my path.
“Can you just please move?” I asked.
“Nope,” He said, and I saw the torch coming down on my head before blackness filled my vision.
