Andy and Jean set up camp after about a mile of running. Liam fell asleep from exhaustion, and Marisa sat down next to him. Devin fell asleep in a corner next to Gage and Jean talked to Andy in quiet whispers, no doubt hitting on her.
“Do you wanna go for a walk?” Harry asked me.
I nodded and we walked away from the others, nobody seeming to notice as we left.
After a few minutes of silence Harry sighed, “Why didn’t you jump out of the truck after Marisa? You gave me a heart attack.” His voice was a little high for him.
I raised my eyebrows, “I couldn’t. The truck was already falling.”
He stopped walking and looked at me, and I saw that there was some hardness in his green eyes, taking away their usual gentleness. “I just wish that you had at least tried to jump out.”
I felt my cheeks get hot. “You don’t really have the right to talk to me about safety, you know.”
“What do you mean?” He answered, sounding annoyed.
“For Gods sake, you tried to commit suicide. You think I wasn’t freaking out?? And I was in like a frickin coma, I couldn’t even do anything about it,” I said trying to sound calm but my voice rose a little bit.
“Because I love you!” He said, his voice on the edge of a yell.
“I love you too!” I exclaimed, “It wasn’t like I didn’t try to get out of the truck.”
“But it took you so long. Why? What were you doing down there? Devin came up way before you and Gage did!”
“That’s the thing! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get Gage or not...I was just thinking.”
“Just thinking?” He said, and his voice was pretty much a yell now, way different from his usual soft, raspy tone. “You were just thinking at the bottom of an ocean while you were in a truck?? That’s not a time to think, Kayla.”
“I couldn’t just leave him there! And it’s kind of hard to make decisions under that much pressure.” I protested, crossing my arms.
He sighed, and his voice dropped so that it was barely a whisper, and I could barely make out the words as they brushed his lips, “You were being stupid. Just leave the fighting and stuff to me.”
My eyes widened. “I was being stupid? Are you frickin kidding me? Like you haven't done anything extremely dumb. And what do you mean leave the fighting to me? I can fight just as good as you.”
“What have I done that’s stupid?” He asked, his voice rising again.
“Well the fire on the island wasn’t really my fault. You were the one that put all the leaves on it, and when I suggested putting rocks around it to tame it you said no.”
“No I didn’t!” He yelled, his face getting red.
    “Yes, you did.” I protested.
He took a deep, ragged breath. “Can you PLEASE just TRY to stay out of trouble?? I get that that’s hard for you but-”
Rage filled me and my stomach seemed to be turning. “Hard for me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Well you cause a lot of accidents.”
    “Like WHAT?” I spat.
“Who’s idea was it for you to run into the middle of a forest fire and fall off a tree, huh? Not mine.”
“I was trying to save us!”
“And how well did that work out?”
We were nose to nose now and every time we spoke our voices got louder and more full of rage. What was happening?
“You’re being a...well, an asshole, to be honest.” I said sharply.
    Harry looked shocked.
“I’m being an asshole?” He mocked.
    “Yes, you are.”
Harry’s face went rigid and I felt something I never thought that I would feel towards Harry build up in my chest. Something that I felt towards Devin after he showed up at the hospital. Not hate, but pure, raging fury. Fury so bad that I wanted to say anything that would hurt him, and as that thought crossed my mind, that I wanted to hurt Harry, I felt even more rage stir inside of me.
“You can be so, so frickin dumb sometimes! You’re like a-” he thought, “Pet. It’s like everyone has to look after you because you always cause problems. You can’t take care of yourself so I have to-”
“What?! Who was it that ran into the middle of a street and almost killed a bunch of people who didn’t have anything to do with anything? Who was it that almost gave his brother a heart attack when he tried to KILL himself? Who was it that got both of us pushed off a boat? Who was it that-”
“Stop blaming me! You know how many times I saved your ass? I always save you.”
I was shaking now I was so angry. “Always save me? I’m pretty sure you didn’t save me when Devin practically whipped me to death.”
I regretted the words as soon as I said them.
    Harry’s face went slack.
We stood staring at each other for a few minutes, breathing heavily and slowly letting the rage burn out of us. “You know what?” He whispered, his voice breaking a little, “I think that we need to take a break.”
My eyes felt hot, but my voice was strong when I said, “I agree.”

I couldn’t believe that we out-ran the cops. Jean was the one who kept insisting that we should set up camp. I guess the cops didn’t honestly think that a couple young teenagers would commit murder. The thought of that made my spit taste like metal.
I fell asleep next to Liam almost right away. When I woke up, the fire was out and everyone was awake except Harry and Devin.
I rubbed my eyes from the bright sun and realized how hot it was. And it was still early in the morning. We had to find food and water somehow.
Jean appeared with berries, which I guess solved the food thing.
“We have to find a lake or something,” Liam said, stretching next to me.
“Wait- where’s Kayla?” I said, looking around.
“She’s all the way over there,” Gage pointed.
I saw her skinny figure in the distance, near the edge of the forest. I knew something was wrong.
“Give me a minute,” I said, standing up and walking over to her.
“Kayla?” I said, my run-down shoes crunching on the desert sand. “Are you okay?”
She turned towards me. Her face was red and her eyes looked heavy.
“What happened?” I asked, my throat getting knotted.
“Harry and I...had a fight,” She said, shrugging slightly. “It was really bad.”
“Are you guys going to be okay?” I asked. I thought about how Harry had a sad expression while he was sleeping.
She shook her head. “We broke up.”
I felt like the floor had dropped below me. “Say that again?”
“We broke up. We both agreed on it.” Her voice was straggly.
“No no no no no you didn’t,” I said, shaking my head. “You guys are meant to be together and nothing will ever tear you apart and you will be together forever! This can’t happen!”
“Marisa, calm down,” Kayla said, shaking me. “It’s going to be okay.”
“How can you say that?” I asked. I ran back to the campsite. “HARRRYYYYY!”
I was at his feet in three seconds. “Wake up!” I started shaking his shoulders.
His face flopped back and forth until his eyes opened. Liam was staring at me strangely.
“What do you want?” Harry groaned, rubbing his eyes.
“How could you and Kayla break up? Do you need to see a doctor?” I put my hand on his forehead. “Yea, I think you do. Because no human being would do this.”
“What?” Liam asked. “You guys broke up?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Harry mumbled. Kayla was back at the camp now, looking fiery red.
“Well, we’re gonna talk about it,” I replied. “What were you guys fighting about?”
Harry looked around at the guys and Andy, who were all anxiously waiting for him to say something. “...I don’t really want to talk about it here.”
“Then let’s go somewhere else and talk about it there!” I exclaimed. “We need real food anyway, and water, and a bathroom, so let’s go to a restaurant or something...”
“Marisa, please shut up,” Kayla said, really annoyed.
    I shut my mouth.
“We are hungry, though, so let’s go to a restaurant,” Andy said. “We can go if that bundle of explosions doesn’t set off again.”
My face burnt and I acted natural. “Fine. Let’s go.”
We reached a McDonalds after a while. The desert began to come into the city and we could see the ocean again. It was really pretty, and even though we weren’t on a vacation I couldn’t help but look around.
Harry and Kayla walked on separate sides of us as we walked there.
“I’m going to the bathroom, someone get me a hamburger,” Devin said. Gage followed, and Andy went to the girls bathroom.
“We have no money,” Liam said.
“Oh yeah. I didn’t think about that,” I said. I kept staring at Kayla and she was staring back like “what the hell do you want?” We were having a conversation without talking.
“I have some cash,” Jean said, pulling it out of his pocket. “Twenty dollars. We may have to split some stuff.”
“How long have you had that?” Harry asked.
“The whole time,” He replied, grinning.
“I know how you feel,” Kayla said, nodding.
Kayla and I shared some chicken nuggets, Liam and Harry got a hamburger, and the rest of the guys got the same thing. We all also got small pops. Liam, Kayla, and I sat together. Harry got his food and saw there were no seats left, so he grudgingly sat next to Liam.
“Where’d Andy go?” Jean asked, looking around like a lost puppy.
    “Who cares?” Kayla said.
“She probably ditched us,” Liam said, biting into his burger.
“What? What?” Jean said, getting up. Then he sat back down. “Ah, it’s okay. We already made out.”
Everyone rolled their eyes and got back to eating.
“So is now a good time to talk about it?” I asked, almost bursting.
“We’re not talking about it,” Kayla and Harry said at the same time. They looked at each other then looked down.
“God, I hate this,” I murmured to Liam.
