After we ate we all began to walk back to the forest. I walked on Marisa’s left, Liam on her right, and Harry next to Liam.
We got back to camp and I watched, standing in the doorway, as Marisa and Liam plopped down together, Gage and Jean went near each other, Harry sat alone alone in a corner, and I glanced around, wondering where to sit. I finally settled on a spot near Devin and far away from Harry.
Liam and Marisa leaned in to kiss and a scene of me and Harry kissing in the truck flashed in front of me. I could practically feel his lips touching mine, his hands on me, hear his voice talking to me in my ear, feel the need of.....okay, so not the time to think about that.
“Dude,” Harry hissed, “Frickin stop.”
“So what do we do now?” Devin asked.
“Sleep,” Jean answered and everyone fell into a restless slumber.
I woke to a scream.
I turned to see Marisa and Liam in two large black bags, screaming and kicking. Jean and Gage were fighting two men and Devin sprang up the minute his eyes opened. I shot up and looked to see Harry getting up too.
Three man grabbed me. I screamed, “Get your hands off of me you frickin morons! Legit!”
“Legit?” A man repeated.
“Yes, legitly get your hands OFF of me.”
I saw Gage being tossed into a bag, and hopelessness filled me. Then rage, thinking about the fight last night with Harry...
I tore apart from the man, kicking one in the nuts. He screamed and I turned around, hearing Marisa screaming and Liam yelling and a lot of that.
I kicked one in the stomach, and praised myself, thinking I was doing really good. Then another man hit me so hard in the face that it went numb immediately and I screamed at the top of my lungs.
“I want her.” One man growled, and I frowned.
“Ohh, that’s weird.” I hear Marisa murmur from a bag. “How old are these people?”
But apparently, he meant fighting. Which was a really big problem, cuz you know, I can’t really fight. “Crap,” I said under my breath as he grabbed my ankle and I fell to the ground, my head hitting first. Pain exploded in my skull and I groaned. “Owww.”
He grabbed my arm and whipped me up, “You fight like a girl.”
“I am a girl. What’s your excuse?”
He growled again and punched me so hard in the stomach that I doubled over and almost passed out, red dots filling my vision.
Then the man slid to the floor.
I saw Devin standing over him, looking pissed.
“Thanks,” I breathed out.
“Yeah, well...” He didn’t finish because another man punched him in the head.
Two more pounced on me and I was thrown into a bag.
I kicked and screamed and when they threw us in a truck finally gave up. We all wiggled out of our bags and I looked around. Marisa and Liam looked okay, since I think they were grabbed while they were sleeping, Devin was bleeding a little, Gage and Jean were groaning but looked okay, and Harry was fine. Not that I looked at him for very long.
I turned to Devin, “Thanks.” I said again.
“Yeah, no problem. You were getting pretty beaten out there.”
I smiled slightly.
“Dannnngggg you bleeeeedddinnnggg. Eeeewwww.” Marisa moaned cuz her lip was swelling a little bit.
“Yea, I know. What else is new?” I said. “We’re kidnapped again. In a...truck.”
The word got stuck in my throat.
Truck.
Harry wiggled awkwardly and I felt a wave of sadness rise in my stomach. I blinked really hard, trying to keep back another shower of hot tears from escaping and succeed.
“I hate trucks,” Marisa said.
I was to the point where the sky could flip upside down and I wouldn’t be surprised. My life couldn’t get any worse.
I was still glaring at Kayla. This couldn’t be true. Harry was just avoiding everyone’s looks, and everyone else was either bleeding or clutching something or complaining.
“What a surprise,” Liam mumbled to me. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” I said, scooting closer to him. “You?”
“Think so,” He said. “What do you think these guys want with us?”
“No idea. But can I be honest with you?”
“Of course,” I replied, looking up.
“I think our luck is running out. We’ve gotten out of nearly every life-threatening circumstance, and...I don’t know if we’re going to get out of this one.”
“Don’t say that,” I said, feeling my heart beat faster. “We’re going to get out of this...we have to.”
He paused then nodded. “You’re right. Sorry. I didn’t mean to freak you out.”
“Yeah, but you did,” I said, patting his arm. Which was muscular.
“I’m hungry,” Kayla groaned. “We have no food.”
“No really?” Jean asked. He looked kinda mad and I think he still missed Andy.
We all fell asleep- well, or just quiet- for a while before the truck came to a stop.
“What’s going on?” Gage asked as the big vehicle shook.
I heard the back door being unlatched and saw Devin and Jean get into sprinting and jumping position.
“Don’t even bother,” Harry said. “They’re going to be prepared.”
The door opened and we all squinted from the bright light. Five men appeared- one tall blonde, three brown hair, and one ginger. They were carrying...weapons.
I looked around at where we were. We seemed to be at a harbor and the waves were huge. I saw a big boat that was white with two levels and a red stripe. There were a few people here in there, and I thought about yelling to them but I think they didn’t care.
“Where are you taking us?” Devin asked.
“Away,” The blonde guy said. He had a weird scar on his face right on his cheekbone.
“Whether you choose the easy or hard way,” One of the brown haired men said, “You’re getting in that boat.”
“I love boats!” Kayla said, squealing.
“Oh fantastic!” The ginger said, jumping up and down in a mimicking way.
“Right?” Kayla said.
“Okay, let’s go.” Each of them grabbed one of us, and the ginger got both Devin and Gage. The blonde grabbed me, and the brown haired guys got Harry, Liam, and Kayla. His grip was uncomfortably strong.
The boat was actually pretty nice. When we headed into it I saw a living room with three couches and a small kitchen with a lot of cabinets and a tiny sink and refrigerator.
“You’re bedrooms are upstairs,” One of them said. “So...go. And don’t think about escaping- you’re always being watched.”
“That’s creeper-ish,” I said.
“I know,” He replied.
We headed up the creaky steps and I tried to get used to the swinging from the waves. I noticed Devin’s face.
“Do not tell me you get sea-sick,” I told him.
He shrugged and tried to hold his stomach.
There were two bedrooms. Kayla, Liam, Harry and I headed into the first one and surveyed it- one bunk-bed and two single beds. They were covered with raggedy old blankets and rock hard pillows. There were two small windows with bright light coming through and a tiny white dresser with a lantern.
“I call top bunk,” Kayla said.
“I’ll go on bottom then,” I said.
The ginger guy opened the creaky door and gave a devious smile. “Sleep tight.”
