A Year Later

Liam (my boyfriend) and I were sitting on a couch in the Grand Hotel, where he had been living with his brother Harry for the past year. The hotel was a street away from my house, and my best friend’s Kayla’s house was close too. So, it had been a year since we had first been kidnapped and crazy stuff had happened. But since we got home, everything was normal, which was really strange cuz we weren’t used to it. Of course, when we first got home after the jet, our family’s were like freaking out and stuff but after a week or so things were back to normal. I didn’t like that word. Normal was so boring.

Liam and I were eating cookies and chatting. He had kind of changed since last year. He was taller, his hair was lighter from the summer, and he had some scars here and there from everything that had happened. His arm was back to normal, though, thanks to a doctor. And him and I were so much closer, if that was even possible. We couldn’t believe it had been a year since we met in Paris and Kayla ran over him and Harry with a motorcycle.

The second I stepped out of the jet, I was wondering how I was going to convince my parents to let my boyfriend stay at a hotel a street away. But they kind of agreed to anything, they were just so happy I was alive. So, that was an upside. I could just ask for anything and they would say, “Of course! I love you!”

Kayla spent the first few weeks obsessing over Emmalina. She got her a collar and a leash. I mean, seriously? But yeah, her family wasn’t as embracing as mine, I think. And when Kayla saw them she just said, “Hi.”

“Hey do you want to see a movie today?” Liam asked. He was kind of rich now, since when he texted his and Harry’s dad asking to stay in the USA his dad sent over a boatload of money to them.

“Sure, what?” I asked, sitting up on the couch with my elbows.

“Um… the Amazing Spider Man?” He asked.

“Really?” I replied. “It seemed kind of…strange.”

          “It’s really good,” Liam said.

“Okay,” I replied. “Let’s go check movie times.”

We headed up the elevator of the hotel, saying hi to the butler named Tom.  In about a minute we reached Liam and Harry’s room. It was one bedroom with two queen-sized beds, a small living room with a fancy coffee table and couch, and a fashionable kitchen with a square table, and of course a huge bathroom and walk-in closet. It was better than my house.

Liam sat down on his bed and turned on his laptop, pulling up movie times.

          “Three o’clock good?” He asked.

          “Sure,” I replied.

My sister and me sat on the floor of our living room, a bowl of popcorn between us. Some board game that we weren’t paying attention was scattered a few feet away.

“I don’t like his new hair cut,” she said, talking about Ed Sheeran. “It’s too short.”

I heard the engine of the motorcycle outside. Harry didn’t live far away, it was like a two-minute walk, but he was obsessed with his new Harley and I think he liked showing it off around the neighborhood. He was sixteen now and had his license. I was only fourteen, and my friend Marisa was fifteen.

He walked into my house with the extra key I had found and walked into the living room. He leaned down and gave me a kiss on the lips and said, “Sup, Shayna?” To my sister.

“Hey Harry,” she responded, not looking up from her laptop.

Harry turned to me. He hadn’t changed much since last year. His hair was still a wild, curly mess. He had cut it once so that it was controllable but just a little bit. His green/blue eyes were still the same and the only thing that was really different was that he had, like all of us, a few scars from battle. The biggest was on his stomach, from when he got stabbed by a bulls horn.

“You ready to go?” He asked me.

“Where are you going?” Shayna asked, finally looking up from the picture.

“The Cliff’s,” I answered and Shayna frowned. “What?” I said, “It’s like ten minutes away.”

The Cliffs were these small cliff’s that me and Harry had found a while ago, just a little bit after we got back. We went swimming there every now and then. Shayna didn’t like them because she said they were “dangerous” but really, nothing was dangerous to us anymore.

“See ya,” I said and we walked out the door. I hopped on the back of the Harley, because him and I both knew that I could not drive for my life, and Harry started it. It took us like seven minutes to get there because Harry drove pretty fast.

I had my swimsuit on under my shorts and t-shirt and I peeled them off and stood at the ledge. It was about thirty maybe forty feet, so not that high. We had decided to start jumping off of them about a month after we got back, when things started to get really boring. Sometimes you just need adrenaline.

There was deep water that waited for us below, about fiftyish feet, so we knew there wasn’t a chance of hitting the bottom. “1….” I started.

“2….” He said, a grin beginning to form on his face.

          “3!”

We both jumped, screaming our heads off. My stomach dropped and adrenaline rushed through my body. The cold water met me and I opened my eyes to see Harry underwater.

We came up, laughing and soaking wet. Harry grabbed me and pulled me to him and kissed me, and I kissed him back, wrapping my arms around his head and trying not to get my fingers tangled in his brown hair.
