The next day Zoe got a call from Connor. He needed our help quickly. His house had a major leak from the storms we've been getting so he needed help to fix the damage.
Luckily my mother as free for Oakley. Without any hesitation she came over to get him. Zoe and I gathered our stuff to stay in a hotel and headed to help Connor out.
3RD PERSON POV
Oakley sat in Heidi's living room, this also happens to be Evan's childhood home. He stared blankly ahead with no emotion. It's like he was thinking. Heidi had never seen Oakley this quiet and wondered what was wrong.
"Sweetie, you okay"? She asked him gently
"Is... Is Uncle Connor going to be okay"? He asked scared
"Oh yes, buddy. Uncle Connor just needed Mommy and Daddy's help for tonight don't worry". Heidi reassured him
Oakley nodded but didn't look any less worried. Finally the show ended and the child fell asleep on the couch. Heidi changed the channel quickly to check the weather. There was another big thunderstorm Warning for that night.
She remembered how Evan had told her about Oakley's fear of storms. For the last week of storms, Oakley has slept with Zoe and Evan in their bed because he was scared.
Zoe had packed a big bag of clothes and toys. Mostly stuff to keep Oakley comfortable. She knew if he didn't have the blanket Evan has given him when he was a baby, he wouldn't be able to sleep.
Heidi made a dinner of chicken and veggies. Oakley didn't seem to really be himself the whole night. I didn't take a genius to figure out why, he's never been a fan of not being with his parents but he's worried of another storm.
"Honey, are you going to eat"? Heidi asked
"Uh-huh".
"Okay.... I want you to know Grandma will be here if you ever need her". Heidi said smiling
"Okay".
Oakley still frowned but he did feel a little more comforted.
EVAN'S POV
Zoe and I arrived at Connor's. His front yard was completely understand water. Luckily, it was just his basement that was flooded. Zoe and I wore tall rain boots and sloshed our way through the water.
"Oh Connor"! Zoe said hugging him
"It's okay, lil sis... I'm okay. I just need help draining the water in basement. I've already carried everything to the upper floors of the house".
Us three walked down to small wooden stairs to Connor's basement. There was water everywhere. It was up to my knees.
THAT NIGHT
3RD PERSON POV
Oakley sat curled up under the covers in Evan's old bedroom. Suddenly a loud crash of thunder echoed through the air. Immediately Oakley shook in fear. It was dark, and he was alone.
Lightning strikes the sky lighting up the outside world. It's like the sun was confused and didn't know whether it was supposed to be day or night.
Another loud smash of thunder shook the house. Without meaning to, without even thinking to, Oakley screamed the only person's name he wanted with him right then.
"MOMMY"! Oakley shrieked even though he knew Zoe couldn't help him.
Heidi ran into the room and cuddled him in her arms.
"Shhh, you're okay.... Grandma's here".
The night dragged on and on as Oakley cried from fear and missing his parents.
ZOE'S POV
After a few hours of draining the water, Evan, Connor and I stayed in a hotel room. We checked in just as it started to sprinkle rain outside.
Connor and Evan raced inside like kids. I playfully rolled my eyes following them. When I got inside, Connor and Evan looked at me impatiently
"What took you so long, babe"? Evan asked
"You two are both children. It's not my fault you two decided to race in here".
I checked us in and Connor and Evan raced to the elevator.
"Guys, we're on the third floor. We don't need to take an elevator". I tried to tell them
"Come on Zoe, please"! Evan begged
"Since when did I become the mother of you two"? I asked chuckling
"I wanna ride the elevator"! Connor jokingly stomped his foot
"Come on, you two kids". I said leading them to the elevator
"I call pushing the button"! Evan yelled
"Evan Hansen, inside voice". I scolded jokingly
"I wanted to push the button.... Zoe"! Connor said pouting
"Sorry Connor, Evan asked first. You can push it next time".
"... Fine...".
Evan excitedly pushed the number three until it lit up. Connor then went over and started pushing all of the buttons.
"Connor Murphy! Stop that! I don't want to stop at every single floor"! I complained.
It was to late, we stopped at every floor before I forbided Connor and Evan to ever push an elevator button while I'm with them again.
Eventually we entered our hotel room. Connor slept on one of the two beds while Evan and I slept on the other one. I was kept awake all night from not only Evan's snores but Connor's was so much worse.....
Then it started, the storm. The worst storm all week. The first person I thought about was Oakley. I didn't want to call and risk waking him or Heidi up so, I just layed in bed listening to my husband and brother's snores, then the occasional loud crack of thunder.
