The night came fast. Oakley paced the pits. Geoffrey, Oakley's cousin aka Connor and Cady's only son, sat on the fence watching everything in awe. Meanwhile, Oakley was experiencing a really painful feeling in his chest, it wasn't nerves... it was something else.

Oakley felt a hand on his shoulder, it was Connor.

"Hey Jr... you seem off tonight.. you okay"?

"Yeah, just nervous". Oakley lied

"Well don't be. You're going to be awesome. The whole family is here"!

"Really"?!

Connor pointed up to the stands to where the family was sat. There sat Zoe, Evan, Strummer, Grandma Heidi or Grams, Nana, Papa, Cady and Bailey.

"Thanks for coming guys..". Oakley smiled to himself

"It's not a big deal. We wouldn't want to miss your big moment. Anyway, Come on Geoffrey, let's go cheer from the stands". Connor smiled

"But Dad"!

"Maybe after Oakley will give you a tour of the pits"? Connor asked more to Oakley

"Yeah, I'll do that". Oakley agreed. This got Geoffrey to agree to follow his father back to the stands.

Oakley had a crew behind him. Connor was his coach and head to the fixing crew. Once Connor returned, it was time to get the cars in place.

"Evan, I always get nervous when he races". Zoe worried

"I know, Zo. He'll be okay. He's basically a pro at this point. He'll be the first across that line... I know it". Evan smirked with pride

Oakley climbed into his car and starting it up. Connor ducked his head into the window.

"I fixed everything from last weekend. Just remember... don't left yourself get blocked in again. You need to watch from all angles and get out before they get to close". Connor instructed

The teen nodded showing his anticipation to just start racing. His fingers danced on the wheel, ready to take off. Oakley heaved a heavy sigh trying to surpress the intense pain in his chest.

Connor walked back to the pits and put his headphones on so he could communicate with Oakley still. Connor knew very well something was wrong with Oakley, but he trusted the boys better judgment.

If he felt he was good enough to race, then he was good enough to race. Soon enough the flag waved and a loud booming "GOOOOOO" echoed through the thick night air.

Oakley could feel the air rush by his car as he weaved ever so delicately between the other racers. He was doing amazingly.

"GO OAKLEY! THAT'S BY BROTHER"! Strummer yelled from the stands

"Look at him go! He's determined tonight". Larry smiled to Cynthia

"My boy... please be careful". Zoe said

"Hey baby, it's okay... look at him, he's doing great". Evan soothed

Evan knew Zoe wasn't 100% on board with Oakley racing but.. it made him happy and Connor is coaching him and helping him make the right decisions out there.

Oakley sped through each car like it wasn't even a threat.

"Wow car number 25, Oakley Connor Hansen is doing well tonight! Look at him go"! The announcer yelled

"Stay focused Oakley... ignore the pain"! Oakley said in his head

"You're doing well, Jr... watch 45 on your tail".

Oakley swerved to the side which throw 45 for a loop. This was a great decision made by Oakley.

"Mommy! He's doing awesome"! Geoffrey smiled to Cady

"He is sweetie, he really is". Cady said in awe

"Wait... look at Daddy's face". Bailey pointed to Connor down in the pits looking worried

"Oakley, what's wrong. Pull over now"! Connor yelled

"No, I-I-I can't I'm s-so close"! Oakley yelled back through gasps of pain

"Oakley pull over now"! Connor shouted again

"NO! I'M GOING TO STATES! I'M SO CLOSE"!

Oakley then disconnected his radio from Connor. His eyes were filled with tears from pain but he fought through and refused to return to the pits.

"Evan?! Why is Connor so worried"?! Zoe asked stressed

"Oh no, what is Connor doing now"? Heidi asked just as confused. The entire family watched in worry and confusion as Connor stood there trying to get Oakley to respond to his pleading cries.

"GAH"! Oakley wailed as he dodged another car in his way

The final lap appeared on the screen and so far, Oakley was in the lead. If he won this, we would be considered one of the best in the whole state. He'll get to race on TV and with big names if he can just get across that line. Also if he wins this race, he doesn't have to race again tonight, he'll just be immediately accepted.

Oakley rounded his last corner. The crowd was going crazy. Everyone in the family was screaming.

"YOU'RE ALMOST THERE, BRO"! Strummer yelled

"GO OATIE! SHOW THEM YOU ARE HERE FOR A REASON"! Evan called

"PLEASE BE CAREFUL!.... Oh.. please my sweet baby boy... be careful". Zoe cried

"YEAH! YOU'RE MAKING GRAMS PROUD, BUD"! Heidi shouted

"GO BUDDY! KNOCK 'EM DEAD"! Larry smiled

"HE'S SO AMAZING! NANA LOVES YOU, OAKLEY CONNOR"! Cynthia exclaimed

"WOHOO! GO, KID! MAKE AUNT CADDIE PROUD"! Cady smirked

Geoffrey was so in awe he didn't say anything. He just had a huge smile on his face.

"Somethings.. still not right". Bailey said looking at Connor

Then just like that, Oakley's car crossed the line in 1st place. However, he didn't make it very far, the car that was on his tail was angry. They nicked the back of Oakley's car, sending him flying off the track and into the dirt. His car flipped several times causing him to call out in pain.

"OAKLEY"! Connor yelled as he ran through the dirt to reach the distroyed car.

"NO! OAKLEY! MY BABY"! Zoe sobbed as she started trying to run to him. Evan gently pulled her back.

"Connor will take care of him from there. Let's get to the gate and meet them there". Evan tried to act strong but really, he was on the breaking point.

The rest of the family followed in worry. A rescue crew came and smashed out the window. Connor pulled a knocked out Oakley from the drivers seat.

"Hey stay with me, kid! I mean it.... don't you dare leave me"! Connor sobbed. He carried the boy in his arms to the gets where not only the family was but the ambulance as well.

"Follow the ambulance. Who's riding with Oakley"? Connor asked

"Zoe will". Evan said hugging her tightly

"Evan... I did last time". Zoe said crying

"I know but... he was little last time, he needed his Mommy and...... nothings changed. He needs the comfort of a mother right now".

"Thank you". Zoe cried once again. The paramedic took Zoe to the ambulance. They put Oakley in and Zoe followed. Then they zoomed off.
