Our Little Family (COMPLETED)

Mama... I'm scared

Evan and Strum rode behind the ambulance. The rest of the family headed home until they could get in to see Oakley. Because Cynthia and Larry live farther away, Evan and Zoe told them to stay at their house until Oakley is accepting visiters.

Connor told Cady to take their kids home. Connor wanted to stay at the hospital with Zoe, Evan and Strum. Heidi doesn't live far away so she was able to get go home.

"Dad, do you think Oak's going to be okay"? Strum asked scared

Evan hesitated before saying

"Yeah, he'll be just fine".

Zoe sat on a bench inside the ambulance. She looked down at her son with tears still present in them. The nurse who was working on Oakley hadn't said a word to her, not because he was anti social, but because Oakley's in such a fragile state that every move needs to be done carefully.

Zoe's eyes couldn't leave Oakley's bleeding face. He had bashed his head off of his steering wheel. There was a cut right above his left eyebrow. His lips were bruised and swollen, if he was awake, he'd be in unimaginable pain.

Even the color of his skin is paler. Oakley's always been a pale kid because he's Evan's son... but now he looks like a ghost. His vains looks as if they would burst from some sort of unknown pressure.

Zoe's mind traced back to Oakley as a baby and toddler. She missed it, more then she ever thought she would.

FLASHBACK

The clock showed 2:26 am. Oakley climbed onto his parents bed.

"Mama... I'm scared".

Zoe slowly opened her eyes. She extended her arms to Oakley to lay with her. He smiled and crawled next to her. He snuggled into her chest while Zoe wrapped him snugly in her grasp. Evan's snores echoed through the room which made it hard to sleep.

However, Oakley was warm and felt safe with his Mom hugging him. Soon there was a tiny squeak of the bedroom door opening again. Strummer walked in and looked teary eyed up to his Dad.

"Dada... can't sleep". Strum attempted to say

Evan jolted awake and looked down at the desperate toddler. Strum reached up to Evan. A small smile appeared on Evan's face and he lifted Strummer up to join the family slumber party.

Evan did the same with Strum as Zoe was doing with Oakley. He wrapped the child in a comfy hug and soon the family drifted off to sleep together.

END OF FLASHBACK

Zoe started to sob once again. They then arrived at the emergency part of the hospital. Zoe was lead to the waiting room while they wheeled Oakley immediately inside.

Evan, Strummer and Connor were right there with Zoe in the waiting room. They sat together in silence and worry for hours. Finally they were given an update on Oakley. The doctor brought them into his office.

"Hello, I'm doctor Stacy". She introduced herself and shook the families hands.

"Oakley was in a really bad state, of course you know this. I am happy to tell you he is doing well now. He is currently asleep with steady breathing. However, we do have things we need to discuss".

"Okay... what's wrong"? Evan questioned

"Because Oakley had hit his head so hard it has caused some concern. It says in his records that he had had a hit to the head when he was younger that caused amnesia. Is this true"?

"Yes, when he was a toddler". Zoe confirmed

"Okay, he's shown no signs of permanent damage but, it is something we need to keep an eye on. I'm not saying it will happen but it's a possibility especially with Oakley's history".

"What could happen"? Connor asked

"Brain damage, he could lose his memory for good, he could lose the ability to communicate, the list goes on and on but so far everything has been going great".

"Can we see him"? Zoe asked

"We ask that one person at a time see him. He's still in a lot of pain and we don't want to risk putting him in an more danger. To many people might cause some panic".

Zoe nodded

"But there is something we should talk about". The doctor continued

"Yes"? Evan asked

"Because this could be life threatening, even if Oakley pulls through fine, it's still something that needs to be discussed. Oakley was intentionally hit by that other driver, the driver was an adult, which means they can go to prison for this. If they were racing at a international competition then the rules would be different, but they weren't, it was a county competition".

Zoe and Evan completely forgot about the fact the driver had broken one of the biggest rules. Don't intentionally cause another driver to be run off the track. If the other driver is harmed in anyway the punishment is you will be baned from ever racing in the League again or even possible prison time depending on the severity of the crash you caused.

"This is a choice you as the parents make. If you do want to press changes then there is numbers to call. Thank you for your time".

While the family was walking out of the office, the nurse stopped them.

"Excuse me, are you Zoe Hansen"?

"Yes.... why"?

"Oakley Hansen wishes to see you".

The nurse leads the way for Zoe. Once they reach the room Zoe takes a deep breath trying to prepare herself for seeing her child hurt.

"Oakley"? Zoe says as she enters

Oakley brings his eyes up to hers. He's shaking and has tears in his eyes.

"Oh sweetie, I'm here". Zoe says taking his hands

"Mama... I'm scared".
