School wasn't exactly Oakley's cup of tea, however... having Cohen around has made it a less traumatising experience for him. By the time Lunch came around, Oakley hadn't thought about Zoe and Evan for a whole two hours.

Cohen was a nerd but, that's why Oakley liked him. He didn't try hard to be cool, he was just him and didn't expect anyone to be anyone they weren't.

Yes, this lead to people picking on him but he shared his secret with Oakley.

"If they can't get a reaction out of ya, they leave you alone".

Cohen had a big vocabulary and there were times when Oakley didn't exactly understand what he had said. Then Cohen will explain what he said without making Oakley feel dumb. It was like having a walking dictionary with you all the time.

Lunch was fun for the boys. They talked about what they liked to do, family and there new found friendship.

"So, got parents"? Cohen asked suddenly

"Uh.. yeah, a Mommy and Daddy". Oakley said smiling

"Cool, I don't have a Mommy..".

Oakley was taken back by this, he couldn't ever imagine not having his Mommy. Cohen then smiled wide as he then said

"My Daddy's name is Trey... how about your parents".

"Oh.. my Daddy's name is Evan... and my Mommy's name is Zoe". Oakley remembered other people calling them by those names so, he was pretty sure those where there real names.

"My Daddy fixes cars... what does your Dad and Mom do"?

"My Daddy... talks to people about there problems and my Mommy... makes rooms".

"So.. your Dad is a therapist and your Mom is a room designer"?

How did he know? Even Oakley knew his definition of their jobs weren't exactly accurate. Oakley nodded to Cohen before they had to head back to class.

It was then reading time. Oakley liked to read but, for some reason he couldn't concentrate on anything. There was a girl chewing her gum really loudly. Oakley slyly scooted closer to Cohen who looked just as annoyed as Oakley.

"She's really loud". Oakley whispered

"Yeah, I know. I'd ask her to be quiter but... I don't want to be mean". Cohen frowned

The girl looked oddly familiar to Oakley. She had dirty blonde hair, much like his own, hazel eyes and was wearing a purple dress with matching knee high socks.

The little girl looked up surprised then realized why the two boys were staring at her. Embarrassed, she ran to the trash bin to get rid of her gum. Oakley and Cohen felt awful. Once the little girl returned, her face was red and she wouldn't even look up at them anymore.

"I'm going to say something to her". Cohen said feeling really bad

He stood up and slowly sat down next to her. She gasped like she wasn't expecting an actual reaction from them. Cohen gave her a faint smile.

"Hey, we didn't mean to make you feel bad about your gum. I'm Cohen, by the way". Oakley's friend smiled

"Oh hi, I'm... Maple.. like the tree".

Oakley's eyes lit up. That's where he had remembered her from. He didn't recognize her because she must have cut and colored her hair.

"Oh that's a really cool name! My best friend, Oakley has a tree name too". Cohen chuckled

"Oakley? He saw me.... spit out my gum"?

This question confused Cohen. Of course he'd saw her spit out her gum. She looked up and saw them looking at her, which caused her to spit out her gum in the first place. It then occurred to Cohen that she wasn't exactly saying that to him... more to herself.

Maple's face got more red as she immediately ran to the bathroom. Cohen decided to just shrug it off and return to Oakley.

"That was..... different". Cohen nervously chuckled

"Maple... I know her. We meet at a park... She stopped a bully from picking on me". Oakley said again to really only himself but obviously Cohen heard him because he said it out loud.

The day continued and unfortunately for Oakley and Cohen... Maple completely stayed clear of them from then on. This upset Oakley a great deal.

Finally the end of the first day came. The children all grabbed their backpacks and lunch pals before lining up and being taken outside to be picked up by there parents.

Cohen and Oakley walked side by side talking. It was a different feeling having a friend. It's like..... someone is there for you... all the time. You can trust them and tell them anything without being afraid you're going to get grounded for what you said or did.

Cohen's Dad stood by a big red truck. He was holding a small coffee in his hand and looked really tired. Cohen frowned as soon as he saw his Dad.

"My Daddy works to hard". Cohen said suddenly

"Is he okay? He looks... really tired". Oakley observed

"Yeah, he always is. Ever since Mommy died.... he's been working two jobs day and night to make money". Oakley heard Cohen sniffing as he spoke.

This made Oakley realized how lucky he was to have his Mom and Dad around. Yeah, they work but.... they are always there.

"Well, maybe one day... you'll have a Mommy again and... your Daddy can be happy".

"That would be awesome"! Cohen smiled

In that moment, Oakley spotted his Mom and Dad. They smiled and waved him over. Cohen walked to his Dad who asked about who Oakley was.

"He's my best friend"! Cohen replied happily

"Oh yeah, I'm so proud of you, bud". Cohen's Dad smiled

Oakley ran into Zoe's arms giggling

"Hi, baby boy! How was your first day of school"? Zoe questioned

"Awesome! I have best friend"!

Zoe and Evan's eyes lit up. Suddenly Cohen ran over

"Oakley! My Daddy wants to meet you"!

A tall man with blonde hair, green eyes with a pair of glasses approached them.

"Hello, you must be Oakley's parents".

"Yes, nice to meet you". Zoe smiled.

"I'm Trey".

"I'm Zoe and this is my husband Evan".

The parents talked for a while before the Hansen family headed back home. When they got there, there was someone waiting.

"UNCLE CONNOR"!

"Hey, little me. I have a surprise for you". Connor smiled

"Huh? What is it"?

"Do you want to go watch the Go Kart racing tonight with me"?

Oakley's eye lit up.

"Yes! Yes! Yes"!

Connor laughed at the boys excitement. Okay, go get ready. Oakley jumped up and ran into his room.

Zoe walked over and threw her arm around Connor.

"You're such an amazing, Uncle". Zoe gushed

"Thanks, Zo. He's a sweet boy".

Suddenly the door to Oakley's bedroom flew open. There stood the kid holding his favorite toy car and wearing his bike helmet.

"Haha, you look great, Jr". Connor chuckled

"Can we go now"?!

"Yeah, say good-bye to Mommy and Daddy first". Connor instructed

"Bye Mommy, bye, Daddy"!

Finally Connor and Oakley headed off for Go Karts.
