This chapter is happening because the amazing Glittersilver and there amazing ideas has helped me once again!!!
The days had finally run out, it was time for Oakley to return to school. He knew it was only a matter of time, this doesn't mean he's looking forward to it at all. Even if Oakley has made almost a full recovery, he still isn't 100% back to normal.
It took a lot of explaining, but Zoe called the school to tell them of Oakley's recent accident. The alarm sounded bringing a disturbing feeling into the air. Evan rolled over from his warm position next to Zoe. He shut off the alarm and sat up.
He usually left for work early, but he wanted to help Zoe get Oakley ready. He knew it wasn't going to be easy for either Mother or son once Oakley was informed of where he was headed.
"Evan, you were keeping me warm"! Zoe whined
"Were you cold"?
"I wasn't! Is it really that time already"? Zoe sighed
"Unfortunately, I'm going to stay to help you get him ready". Evan smiled lightly
"Really? Thank you, babe".
Evan had definitely changed a lot of things about his working schedule. The night they when out to dinner really haunted Evan. He couldn't believe he'd ever been so oblivious to Zoe's feelings. It was unfair for not only her but Oakley as well.
"Who's going to wake him up"? Zoe asked chuckling
"We'll do it together. We might need two of us just to get him out of bed". Evan smiled
The two walked hand in hand to the silent bedroom of there only son. They opened the door as quietly as possible. There he lay, a young child who has been through so much over the last few weeks. It hurt to even think about it all.
Evan tapped Oakley's shoulder only to be greeted by a whimper. Oakley rolled over, away from his parents in an attempt to make them go away. He knew that being woken up this early only meant one thing.
"Oakley, bud. Time to get up". Zoe said loud enough for it to disturb the kid.
"No". Oakley said straight to the point.
Zoe was immediately taken back, Oakley's never told her No so bluntly before. Even if he didn't want to do something, he never fought.
"Oakley Connor. It's time for you to get up". Zoe said sternly
Oakley poked his head out from his covers, looking up at his Mother. The look left much to say, the deep anger the kid was storing inside of him. What happened traumatized the boy, so why would his Mom and Dad, the two people who are supposed to protect and be there for him, want him to return to that scary place?
The plainly annoyed face immediately turned to anger. He wasn't having anything to do with this right now. He was about to say something when Evan broke in. Evan is usually the one Oakley feels most comfortable with getting angry at, his mother is the exact opposite. There hasn't ever really been a time Zoe had to yell at the boy. Mostly because after Zoe's upbringing, she doesn't believe yelling at a child does anything good for them....
Or yelling at all for that matter. Yelling creates a very tight feeling in the air. Tension is the root of the households problems, if a child is surrounded by that 24/7, it's only going to have a negative impact on them. Zoe believes this very strongly and tries other ways of getting her points across... not bribing either. That just makes the kid think they can do whatever they want and get a treat for it, it has the opposite effect that the parent wants.
Even if Zoe is a designer, she knows her own fair share of parenting tips. Many of the ladies at her offices are new mothers, as well as some guys being news Dad's. If Zoe's business ever crashes and burns, she has all the experience and knowledge to be a counselor or guide for any new parents.
Evan is very good with Oakley as well and follows the same beliefs Zoe has. It's just that sometimes Evan does lose his temper if anyone can even believe that. Anyone who had known Evan in high-school would never be able to picture Evan mad. However, after years of guidance, he's been about to grow and make himself better.
"Oakley. This isn't very funny. Listen to your Mother and get out of bed".
The kid didn't say anything, he just allowed Zoe to lift him from his bed. She got him dressed and gave him his backpack. He frowned as they approached the school. There were plenty police around which made Evan and Zoe relax a little bit.
"Bye, sweetie! Have a good day"! Zoe called as Oakley ran to the play gate that lead to the preschool classroom.
He immediately ran into Cohen.
