The remodeled room is above!! Also, here's some art work of Strummer, Oakley will be in the next upcoming chapters.
It was currently 2am and both parents lay peacefully asleep. The boys however couldn't. Everything was perfect until they had to start sharing a room. It's honestly more Oakley then Strummer but Strummer can tell when he's not wanted.
"Stop moving around, Strummer"! Oakley whined
Strummer, who hasn't exactly gotten the hang of speaking can still respond to his older brother in an act of annoyance. Oakley was on the top bunk while Strummer is on the bottom.
"AHHHH"! Strummer yelled back as his only way to show anger vocally
"You're so annoying"! Oakley yelled back
Soon the yelling turned into crying and screaming. At the same time, the boys heard there parents bedroom door open. The foot stepps weren't as heavy as Evan's, this meant... here comes Mom.
"Hide"! Oakley yelled in a whisper
Strummer ran to the corner, Perfectly in sight, while Oakley made a bad choice to try to move the dresser to hide behind it. The door swung open to reveal a tired and angry Zoe. She was wearing one of Evan's old hoodies with short back shorts.
"Oakley Connor and Strummer Matthew! What is going on in here"?! Zoe demanded
The boys, who still believed they were hiding, stayed silent. Maybe if they don't awnser, she'll go away? Of course this wouldn't be the case as Zoe was far to tired to nurse there efforts of hiding.
"Both of you, here now"! Zoe demanded louder
The brothers made there way to there Mom with much resistance and sorrow.
"What is going on"? She asked
"Strum and I were fighting". Oakley awnsered quietly
"And why were you two fighting"?
"We don't like sharing a room"! Oakley said more confidently
"I'm sorry but there isn't another choice. You two will share a room and learn to get along! I want you two to get back into bed and your Dad and I better not hear another word from either of you until tomorrow morning"!
Zoe helped the boys back into there respective bunk bed and turned off the light, leaving the brothers alone again. Strummer feel asleep like nothing ever happened, Oakley found himself feeling really upset about getting in trouble.
The morning dawned and Evan came to wake the kids up. His smiley attitude just gave a more uncomfortable feeling in Oakley's mind. He followed behind his Dad and Brother to the kitchen for breakfast.
Zoe was making coffee for herself and Evan. Evan lifted Strummer up onto a chair around the table. Oakley took a spot without saying a word.
"Who wants juice"? Zoe asked suddenly
"Haaaa"! Strummer squealed in an effort to say what he wanted
"I know you want Apple juice, honey. How about you, Oakley"? Zoe chuckled
"Chocolate milk". Was his quick response
Evan helped poured the boys drinks as Zoe finished making the long awaited coffee. Strummer's was poured into a blue and yellow sippy cup, while Oakley's was poured into a red and blue sippy cup.
"How did you boys sleep in your new room last night"? Evan asked completely oblivious
"Good". Oakley said looking away from Strummer and Zoe sourly.
"Did you two finally agree to get along"? Zoe questioned
Strummer sipped away on his cup, not paying any sort of attention to his growing tension in the air. Oakley didn't feel like awnsering this question, as it meant nothing to him if him and his baby brother ever made up.
"Oakley? I asked you a question"?
"I know". Oakley nodded still avoiding her question like the plague.
"Then awnser it. It's rude to not respond".
"I'm sorry Mommy"! Oakley broke down into a heap on the ground.
A soft look surged through Zoe's face. Even if it's important that her son's have manners, she also knows that they both have breaking points. Strummer's a little to young to clearly see his line of breaking, but Oakley's is perfectly written out in red marker.
Zoe knew she pushed to far into his breaking point. She felt bad. Oakley's a good boy, he's very well behaved in school and wasn't this mean to Strummer before they started sharing a room.
Zoe took the 6 year olds hand and walked him to his room. She had him sit on the end of Strummer's bottom bunk to talk things through. Communication is the biggest rule Zoe made in this household, especially because lack of it leads to her household back in high school. She doesn't want her boys to feel how she did countless times in there own house.
"Bud, why are you so sad"? Zoe gently asked
"I'm, I'm not s-sad"! Oakley tried to play it off
"Oakley, you can tell Mommy... what's wrong, hon"?
The boy looked down to the ground and sniffled.
"He took my room. Just like my favorite toy, and my favorite shirt and..... my blue truck"! Oakley spat out
Over the last few years, Oakley has gotten to big for some of his clothes and the same blue truck Connor had gotten him. He stopped playing with some of his old toys. All of these things were just passed down to Strummer.
Zoe did understand why this bothered Oakley so much. Everything he has is now partly owned by his brother too. His room was the one place where he could keep his own stuff without Strummer getting into it. Now his safe place has been invaded and even though he loves his baby brother, it's still hard for him not to get mad at everything Strummer was just given without Oakley's consent.
"Bud, I'm so sorry. You're right, daddy and I should've checked with you before we gave Strum your stuff. Are you mad"? Zoe asked using a parenting tatic
"No, I'm okay. As long as Strum shares...". Oakley said smirking slightly
"Good, don't worry. He'll share".
