On Strummer's way out of school, he got stopped by one of the student council members.
"Hey, have you seen Oakley? I have news for him"! The boy said excitedly
"I haven't seen him since this morning". Strum said coldly
"Oh well... could you tell him he was voted in as homecoming king"!
"H-He.. wait what"?
"Yeah, the votes were just counted. But since we're late with announcing them this year we have to run around to tell the winners".
"I'll try to tell him. Who's queen"?
"Emily Summers. I still have to let her know so I better get going. Let Oakley know for me, okay"?
"Yeah... yeah I will".
Strummer was beyond shocked. How could Oakley, his shy brother have won homecoming king?! No body seems to notice he's even there half the time! Oh top of that... with his crush... how does that even happen?!
The fight from this morning still echoed in Strum's mind. How could Oakley say something like that?! Strummer has tough skin, if a random person said something hurtful to him, it bounces off him but it wasn't some random person... it was his big brother... his best friend.
Sure, Strummer made mistakes... a lot. And sure, Strummer was often a little obnoxious and loud... and... yes, Strummer definitely is not an easy person to be friends with.
However, Oakley gave him so many chances and he blew every chance because in his head he never thought Oakley would actually get mad at him. They don't fight.. ever. When they go home start fighting, Zoe and Evan are going to ask, which will make the fight worse and then Zoe's going to make them "talk it out", which is definitely not what either brother is going to want to do.
Zoe is one of those mothers who did "activities" to make her kids get along. Maybe Oakley and Strummer just got annoyed with her ideas so they became close to avoid them. One of the classic Zoe activities was "the get along shirt". That was one horrible afternoon.
Strummer doesn't think he's ever hated a t-shirt so much. Evan didn't like this activity either because they always used his shirts.
Normally Oakley and Strummer would walk home together but because of some recent events, that's not happening. So Strum started his walk home alone.
He spotted Oakley walking ahead of him and decided to try to talk to him. Maybe he could make up with him before Zoe made them wear the same T-shirt until they made up
"Hey Oak"! Strummer called out
Oakley didn't even acknowledge him. This hurt Strummer.
"Oakley! Come on, bro! I need to talk to you"!
"Go away".
The younger brother ran to Oakley's side as they both entered the house together. Evan and Zoe sat in the living room just watching TV.
"I need to talk to you". Strum demanded
"I thought I made it clear that I don't want your crap in my life anymore. I'm done"!
"You don't understand! This is really important"!
"What?! What could possibly be so important! Haven't you ruined everything already"!
"What's going on"? Zoe asked confused though her question was ignored
"You know the guy, Sam who's in the student council"?
"Yeah, why"?
"He told me that you won Homecoming King and Emily's the Queen"!
Oakley's face stood frozen until his brow furrowed.
"Really?! You're still trying to play games with me?! Do yourself a favor and just leave me alone! You're my brother, I shouldn't have to come home and deal with the same bullying here"! Oakley's face was red while tears could be seen starting in his eyes.
"Bullying"? Zoe questioned standing up
The oldest brother left quickly, he made a mistake. Strummer clenched his fists in rage. He grabbed his backpack from the ground and ran for the door.
"Where are you going"? Evan called
"You heard him... he doesn't want me in his life anymore"! Strum ran off feeling a pain burn in his chest.
Strum almost felt the erge to cry... almost. He doesn't cry often so when he does... something is really bothering him. He made his way down the sidewalk into the cold September night.
Oakley sat in his and Strum's bedroom and found tears rushing down his cheeks. How could his own brother lie to him. He was about to break down again when his phone went off, it was Cohen.
"Hey man, how's it going"?! Cohen greeted
"H-Hey".
"Dude, are you crying"?
"N-No.. well maybe".
"What happened"? Cohen asked concerned
Oakley went on the explain the whole situation to Cohen.
"Wait... you said he lied to you about you being Homecoming King"?
"Yeah, there's no way in hell I, Oakley Hansen would ever be considered for King".
"Well.... actually. There's a reason I called you. It was to congratulate you on your win".
"Did Strum tell you the lie too"?! Oakley gasped
"Oakley, it's not a lie. Maple told me because she's good friends with Emily and she won Queen. We all heard this from Sam".
"How come I didn't know before?! Homecomings tomorrow"!
"Apparently they were really late on counting the votes".
----------------------------------
"Evan, what was he wearing last"?! Zoe freaked out, they couldn't find Strummer anywhere
"Uh... he was wearing a blue hoodie, jeans... some converse sneakers and the music note necklace you gave him".
Oakley made his way downstairs. Immediately he got bombarded by questions.
"What happened"?
"Why were you two fighting"?!
"Where would Strummer go"?!
Obviously his parents were worried and Oakley had no idea where Strum would run away to. He called a whole bunch of people starting with the Fairyton twins.
"Hello"? Cosmo awnsered
"Hey, is Strum there"?
"No, we haven't seen him since school. Let me ask Wanda".
"Okay".
Oakley waited patiently for an answer that ended up being a no. He called a few more of Strum's friends, all of which said they hadn't seen him.
