I hear footsteps coming up the stairs, but don't react, assuming they're David's. "Where's my baby girl!?" David yells from down the hall confirming my suspicion.
From what it sounds like, there's more than one person walking towards my room. "There She is!" David says and lifts her off of her resting place tucked next to me on my bed. He peppers her face with tiny kisses before the boy standing next to David grabs her and kisses her small forehead and lays her against his chest.
"Hey, honey. Uncle Alex came to visit you." The boy, Alex, says and kisses the top of her head. "My precious little girl. Uncle missed you." He says and rubs her back as she curls up against his chest.
"Uh, Alex, this is Layla, the nanny. Maria's new mom. Layla, this is Alex. One of my close friends." I shake his hand and sit in the cute white chair covered in fur next to my bed. "He just stopped by to say hey to Maria." He explains and I nod, not understanding why he's explaining why his friend is in his house.
Alex was definitely cute. He had a cute face, that has this sorta relaxed and unbothered look on it at all times. He seemed to be very close to David and he obviously loved the hell out of Maria, but who wouldn't? She's a wonderful little baby.
Alex sits on the end of my bed, and David stand before him. "Did you get any good footage today?" Alex asks and David shrugs. "I have some footage of Jason you can use in the vlog. It's just stupid stuff but it's probably usable." He pulls out a camera chip from his pocket and places it in David's hand.
"I guess I'll find out when I edit, won't I?" Alex nods in response to David.
I slide on a pair of brand new Birkenstocks that I just bought today, which up until now I was rocking a 5$ pair which looked almost identical but I guess didn't do the job. "Your family expecting us?" David asks and keeps his eyes on his phone.
"Yeah, they won't mind if were a little late, though." I assure him.
"I can take Maria for a bit, the guys tone it down at night and I'm sure they'd love to see her." David shakes his head.
"No, if those asses want to see her they can come visit and they know that. She doesn't need to be in that environment." Alex stays silent and Maria begins crying. I quickly take her from Alex and the two boys exit the room.
I spend a minute swaddling her again and placing her in her seat and then make my way to the living room. "They bumped the trip up, what can I do about It, don't yell at me." Alex says to David who sighs deeply and rubs his temples.
"You're right, I'm sorry." I set Maria's chair in front of David and begin packing the diaper bag with supplies that laid around the room. "I'm not used to being away from her anymore." David says and leans down, rubbing a thumb against her cheek.
"Sorry, man." Alex says with a sad smile. "Bring her with to the next trip." He hums in response.
"I was considering that." David says. "I need more time to think about it though. It's just a little early."
I quickly finish packing the diaper bag and we all exit the house. I offer Alex a wave as he pulls out of the driveway and disappears down the road.
"Alex seems nice." I say, trying to make conversation and we settle into the car.
"Alex is nice." He says simply.
"Why didn't you want him to take Maria?" I question. "He seems pretty good with her."
"It's not him I'm worried about. The boys would do something they shouldn't without realizing it and someone will get hurt, and I'm not risking it being my child. Only way she's going to that house is if I'm there with her." He glances at me. "You don't go there either. Unless I'm there." I furrow my eyebrows.
