tik tik tik. that damn clock.
"this thing is hideous." layla scrunches her nose up in disgust. "every day i think over and over again why haven't we gotten rid of it yet?" david peaks his head out from the bathroom and shrugs his shoulders quickly. "it makes me angry."
"i think your problem is that you secretly like it." he leans a little more out of the room and throws a quick glance at it. he didn't quite like the clock either. "it's kinda creepy, too. don't you think?" she nods slowly in response. "how many opportunities have we had to give the ugly thing to your mother? or ana?" layla shrugs in response, the tips of her shoes tapping the wooden floor over and over again as she sits on the small bench across the bathroom while watching david fix his hair.
"mom!" laylas head turns towords the sound coming from down the hall before turning back to david who grins at her.
"you're needed." he smiles before turning back to face himself in the mirror.
layla hums quietly to herself as she makes her way down the hallway, her hands crossed neatly infront of her as she walks.
"yes?" she peaks her head in the room to see 16 year old astoria sitting on her bed with an upset look on her face. "what's wrong?" she questions as she makes her way towards the frustrated looking girl.
"i-i don't wanna go." she sniffles aggressively.
"you get upset like this every year. it's hard for all of us. how do you think mom and aunt ana feel every year? or grandma?" maria stands in the doorway of the bedroom and crosses her arms tightly over her chest.
"stop it, maria. worry about yourself, idiot." maria rolls her eyes at her younger sister and turns to layla who watches the two with a grin.
the girls always did things that reminded her of herself and ana when they were growing up. nothing made layla happier than seeing the two girls act like sisters. she was glad that they grew up loving each other.
"speaking of myself, mom," she smiles. "do you think that i could go on a date tonight?" david appears in the doorway behind the maria and gives her a hard look.
"with who? that random guy you met at the skate park? have you told him you don't even skate yet? how's he gonna feel then?" david presses and holds the girls shoulders tightly.
"enough about stupid dates and you guys constant arguing. we're gonna have a good day today, okay?" layla lifts an eyebrow and looks between the group. "today is about grandpa and no one else. i-i just need today. no fighting and no arguing. okay?" she questions and folds her hands over her lap with a unreadable look on her face.
"i'm sorry, mom." maria takes the seat beside layla and glances at astoria and sighs deeply. "sorry astoria." she punched her shoulder with a little too much aggression, causing her younger sister to wince and grab her arm. "i love you." she chuckles with a grin.
"i love you too, stupid bitch." david narrows his eyes at the 16 year old who giggles with her sister.
"what did i tell you about that language?! you've been spending way too much time with you uncles. and another thing!-" layla blocks david out and continues looking out the window that gave them a beautiful view of the hills from the massive house.
the 15 year anniversary of laylas father's death seemed to pop up on her out of no where. it didn't seem like 15 years to her. as the years passed her heart ached more and more. shed gotten past it awhile ago and accepted it, in her hectic life she didn't have time anymore to be depressed. but she still found herself dreading the day and getting more and more upset the closer to the date it got.
