"god richie...what is it? it's midnight" eddie rubbed his eyes after he had placed the phone against his ear in the middle of the night in the dark hallway. he had heard the phone ring and ran to it, before his mother beat to it.

"exactly. eddie could you tell what's the time exactly?" richie sounded extremely happy on the other line.

"it's uh...12:02am" eddie glanced at the clock which hung on the wall.

"damnit, I was a minute too late" richie mumbled, before clearing his throat. "anyway, happy birthday, darling eddie"

"are you serious?" eddie chuckled dryly. "you woke me up in the middle of the night just to say that?"

"of course. I didn't want to be late" richie said in the other end.

"I didn't call you after midnight. you're making me feel like a bad boyfriend" eddie leaned against the wall, closing his eyes.

"nonsense. you're the best boyfriend I could ever ask for. I hope you remember our plans tomorrow"

"I only know you're taking me somewhere and that's it" eddie sighed.

"great. see you at 10pm, birthday boy" richie's grin was audible.

"i'm an adult now. so i'm not exactly a boy anymore" eddie smiled tiredly.

"due to the fact that you're younger than me, you're always going to be a 'boy' to me" richie explained. "and I mean, c'mon...look at you eddie. you're the height of a five year old"

"careful there, richie" eddie warned. "you could be single very quickly if you keep saying that"

"i won't lie, eds. it's a sin" richie chuckled. "and you couldn't dump me. i'm a catch"

"sometimes I really wonder why I'm dating you" eddie sighed, smiling.

"eddie! who are you talking to?" his mother's voice snapped him out of his thoughts. eddie opened his eyes and looked to his side to see his mother peeking from her bedroom, a long pajama on her and hair on tight little buns around her head.

"with richie" eddie replied, covering the mouth of the phone so that richie couldn't hear him.

"it's late, eddie. end the call, please" sonia told her son, before pulling herself back into the room and shutting the door after her.

eddie rolled his eyes and brought the phone to his ear. "I need to go, rich"

"see you in the morning, beautiful" richie said and eddie could almost see his wink.

"trust me, I'm not very beautiful right now" eddie let out a breathy laugh.

richie only laughed in response. "you're a comedian, young kaspbrak. i'll see you later today. sleep well, baby"

eddie smiled at the nickname richie had used and bit his lip slightly. "yeah...g'night rich" then, eddie slowly put the phone back on its place. eddie looked at the clock for a while, listening to its ticking, before heading back to his room, flopping on his bed and falling into a deep sleep.
