eddie twiddled the phone in his hands as he looked at it. his hands were shaking and he could feel his heart beat rising and rising. he liked his lips and let out a shaky breath.

and soon he felt two hands on his shoulders.

"you don't have to call her, you know..." richie said softly and kissed the side of eddie's head, making the other turn around.

"I know I don't, but...it's mother's day. we usually celebrate it. I make her breakfast and collect her flowers...this is our first mother's day apart..." eddie looked down.

richie rubbed eddie's upper arms. "you do remember what she said the last time you saw her?"

"she said she doesn't have a son..." eddie mumbled. "thank you for reminding me"

"hey, no, i'm sorry...that's not what I meant...I just...just wanted to warn you that if you do call her...she won't be squealing with excitement"

eddie nodded in agreement and put the phone on the holder and wrapped his arms around richie. "god I wish my mom could be like yours..."

richie placed his chin on eddie's and hummed. "I don't really know how to reply to that"

"it's okay, I just want to be heard" eddie smirked against richie's chest. "thank you for always listening to me"

"of course" richie pulled back and kept eddie in an arm length. "who wouldn't want to listen to you?"

"you're so sappy" eddie rolled his eyes and pushed richie away.

"I'm seeing a smile in your pretty lips" richie pointed out before almost running to their bedroom. eddie furrowed his brows and stayed on his spot next to the phone.

"richie?" he called, but only received a bunch of footsteps in return. and soon richie was back standing in front of him, but his hands were behind his back.

"I got something for you" he grinned.

"for me?"

"no, for the president..." richie rolled his eyes. "I literally just said I got something for you"

eddie huffed and crossed his arms. "yeah, yeah..."

"do you want this or not?" richie lifted a brow.

eddie didn't reply, but he lifted his chin a bit and looked at richie's hands questionably, meaning he really wanted to know what richie had gotten for him.

then the taller one brought his hands to the front and handed eddie a leather binder. eddie's brows furrowed even more.

"and this is...?" eddie asked.

"open it" richie assured.

eddie obeyed and opened the binder, seeing a crumbled up piece of paper. the edges were slightly yellow and curved.

and on the paper it said;

I, Richie Tozier, promise to be Eddie's best friend as long as there's air in me and as long as my heart beats. I promise to be with him in school and I promise never to abandon him.
