Sixteen

Holding hands in the back of your car,
Lying on your shoulder, under the stars.

Walking down the streets in the moonlight,
Running through the park, flying kites.

Stealing kisses on the front porch,
Reading with the light of a torch.

Dancing in the pouring rain,
Playing hopscotch on my lane.

Having waterfights in my backyard,
Struggling to build a house of cards.

We were sixteen, so reckless and free,
Laughter in the air, hearts swelling with glee.

Forever is what we thought we'd be,
Bound to each other for eternity.

Weeping silently in the back of my car,
I thought of you as I gazed at the stars.

You were walking down different streets,
I had to travel miles to become complete.

Reminiscing on the front porch,
Writing you letters with the light of the torch.

Crying in the pouring rain,
Walking down memory lane.

The distance was too taxing on my heart,
Like a house of cards, our love fell apart.
