Last

23 8 9

I ran a race,
And I came last
Everyone else,
Was far too fast

I huffed and puffed,
And struggled to keep pace
I stumbled and tumbled,
I lost the race

Mom said I was a champion,
I made it till the end
Dad said I was a winner,
But my morale didn't mend

They said it was the journey,
Not the silver or the gold
For racing at all,
I was bold

I didn't give up,
I reached the finish line
I made it through,
Just a little off time

I came last,
When I ran that race
There was no mistaking,
The tears on my face

They dressed it up,
Said I was great
It didn't matter,
That I was late

They told me to move on,
It was in the past
But I'll never forget,
The day I came last.

People tend to pour out optimism after a failure, telling you that it's just another obstacle in your path to success.

But what we forget to acknowledge is that it's there. It's a hard phase and getting through it may be the toughest challenge.
But you'll make it through.
Believe in yourself.
No one can instill that belief in you except for yourself.
