Hiding notes under the covers,
Hiding tsunamis in my eyes
Telling you it was nothing,
When all along they were lies.
Sheltering my secrets,
Sheltering my mind
Making sure there was nothing,
You wouldn't want to find.
Locking diaries in my closet,
Locking my heart up tight
So you wouldn't see the damage,
That I've been trying to fight.
Storing away regrets,
Storing away the girl inside
So you wouldn't be able to see her,
In the darkness, where she resides.
Discarding my emotions,
Discarding all my pain
The life I've kept a secret,
A secret is what it'll remain.
Running from expectations,
Running from growing old
I know I've disappointed you,
By leaving these lies untold.
Cutting down all my ties with you,
Cutting myself away
I wish I'd told you everything,
But I didn't know what to say.
Blocking out all your comfort,
Blocking out all the light
I wish I was the perfect daughter,
I wish I'd done it right.
