Anything to drown out,
His morbid shouts.
When the cuts on her arm didn't fade away,
She did instead.
He reeled her in,
He couldn't let her go
She was the only love,
He'd ever known.
When her conscience couldn't chain her,
He did instead.
She needed to be free,
She couldn't stay
In his dreary prison,
She wouldn't spend another day.
When his morbid shouts didn't drown,
She did instead.
He pulled her in,
He couldn't say goodbye
He couldn't leave her,
Though their love had been a lie.
When reality didn't hit her,
He did instead.
She built a bridge to escape,
Away from her past
She wasn't going to let,
This toxic story last.
When the fears didn't retreat,
She did instead.
He tried to flee after,
But she'd burnt the bridges down
After all that he'd done,
It was he who had drowned.
When the scars didn't leave,
She did instead.
