Diego's eye widened as Ella tread out of the kitchen. Sweat bead begin to form on his forehead, the surrounding turned warmer all of a sudden.
Ella moved closer, "Stop right there! Don't you do this" Diego warned as he took another step back. His widened eyes shifted from Ella's expressionless and tired face to the knife in her hand. He swallowed hard, a sudden fear crept in him. The image of the knife piercing through his skin, flashed in his mind.
Shrugging it off, he ordered "Ella... put that down"
"Why should I?" She sounded as if she's been possessed. "You ate what's mine. I'll not let you live!" She took another step forward.
'Maybe I should have left without getting into a fight with her. Serves you right, Diego'
"Okay! Stop! You don't have to act like a killer. It was just a small bit from your dinner. I'll buy you dinner, okay!" Diego tried to calm her down.
"Good! Do that now!"
-----
"Here, eat and send off the hungry demon away" he took a seat next to her. She huffed grabbing the hot burger from him.
"And remember not to do that shit again! Don't play with knives!" Diego warned her.
"Scaredy cat!" she commented on remembering how scared he looked earlier.
"No! I'm not"
"Oh, yes you are! Scaredy cat"
Diego remained quite if he continued to deny the fact that he wasn't scared, Ella would probably pull out some old incident to prove him wrong. Zipping his mouth was the best option for him.
"So, tell me. What happened?" Diego asked after a long silence.
"Tell you what?" Ella tried to avoid the eye contact with Diego so that he doesn't catch her lying.
"About you. You look so tired and exhausted. What were you doing over the weekend?" Ella felt the bench shook a little, his full attention was on her.
"um-I went fishing"
"Fishing? Where?" He sounded surprised a little also there was the tone that says he did not believe her. Not even a bit.
Ella took sometime to answer, mentally searching for a fishing port or a place that they could possibly do real fishing. Why in the freaking earth did she said fishing, when she never fished even one fish in her life time? 'Why fishing, Ella? NOW....Where? Where? Where in Italy? In Milan? In Genoa?'
"Where Ella?"
"In Camogli" she answered without looking at his direction.
"Camogli?" before he could ask anything further, Ella stood ready to leave.
"Thanks for the burger but I think I'm done. Here, finish the rest. See you, good night" she bid him good bye and foot it to the building opposite from where they were.
"What?! Ella wait! You are lying, aren't you?"
"No! I'm not lying. I—I just wanted a short break" her eyes was fixed to the ground all the while.
"You sure?" She merely nodded her head. "I just can't buy it, Ella"
Ella left a sharp breath out, "I'll tell you but not now" she said and crossed the road. Something in her told maybe she should tell him about her being kidnapped yet him being scared and worried for every little thing off lately, stopped her.
She turned around to wave good bye, Diego had already crossed the road and was heading towards her. "Why not now?" He asked as soon as he reached her.
