Two days had gone in a blink of an eye for Ella that she did not realise so much had changed in the house of Moretti's.
The interior looked more like a garden grown in house. Every column had twirls of fake flower creepers around it that brought out the Ivory colour of the columns. The settings made her wonder, how long has she been in the room?
"I must not have noticed these" she told herself as she hobbling through the hallway that almost resembled a floral tunnel.
She had spent the last two days extracting possible information from the diaries Diego had given to her. All the while mentally bashing him for giving her such a task, ordering her to read diaries of someone and getting information from it.
The last two days gave her enough time to know what is it like to be being Demetrio Agosti and what his friends were like. It gave her sort of an idea of who to blame yet needed more evidence to confirm it.
Ella peeped in the hall that was set to hold the party for the next day and she was quiet overwhelmed to see how lavishly the Moretti's spent for a birthday party. Ella couldn't muster a word hence, she decided not to put any for the Morettis and proceed to scan for Diego in the small crowd of decorators.
She spotted him having a serious discussion with the event planner and waited till he is done.
-----
The exhaustion called for a good cup of hot tea and without waiting for Diego she headed straight to the kitchen. The smell of freshly made cannoli greeted her way in the cooking area.
With temperature had significantly decreased, everyone in the house been moving around with almost two layers of cloths to keep themselves warm. That included Ella too, she's been with sweater along with a winter jacket all day.
Deigo ambled in to the kitchen, found Ella leisurely sitting in the corner with a mug. With an urge to irk her, Diego tiptoe towards the corner and gave tap on her head with a file he had with him.
"Tea without me!" he asked as he pass over her stare.
"Long time no see. Thank you for the knock!" Ella placed the mug with a loud thud.
"Sorry about that"
If there is something really wrong in there, that must be the face of the man sitting right opposite her. He should be banned to roam around for having that innocent face and a smile that could melt anyone.
They are too captivating, Ella turned away not to get noticed. "Fine, whatever"
"So, what kept you indoor?" He asked though knowing the answer.
"That question should be barred" she hissed while he backed away, raising both his arms up.
"I need to talk to you. Are you free now?"
"Anytime for you" he winked.
Ella studied him for a moment. "Are you flirting with me?"
He shrugged and left the kitchen with a mug in each hand. "What is it about?" He asked, purposely refusing to answer her.
-----
"You better pay for this, Deigo. I spent my two precious days to get these information." Ella spoke first as soon as they stepped in her room that had the diaries spread all over her bed.
"Alright, promise. I'll get you something as precious as your two days. Tell me what you found" he said taking one of the open diary.
Ella sat on the bed and explained the gap between the two set of diaries she had divided after noticing the years for better reading flow.
1967-1970 and 1992-1997.
In both set the most common and suspicious name she found was Gasparo D'Luca.
The D'Luca that they planned to find initially and dropped the idea afterwards. They also learned that it wasn't Simon D'luca they were supposed to look for but it was Gasparo D'Luca.
She had also found that Gasparo D'Luca, Bernardo Moretti and Demetrio Agosti were friends since school. According to Ella from what she read, Demetrio Agosti was someone affable, caring, organized and discipline. A rule-follower.
When they were sixteen, Demetrio found Gasparo illegally supplying drugs to kids in school. He even tried to talk to Gasparo about stopping but Dasparo did not pay any heed and continue to sell drugs in school.
Demetrio had also written about his disappointment on Bernardo who told him not to bother or complaint and let Gasparo do whatever he was doing by saying it is Gasparo's problem.
After a couple of tries, Demetrio decided it was time to let the school authority to know about this. And the school immediately contacted the police department after the complaint.
Upon the investigation, the police department found out that Gasparo's father was an Underworld drug lord and got him arrested through Gasparo who had no choice but to take the cops to his father's hideout.
It was the vengeance on that which started the entire situation that they are here now. These entire scenario was found in the diary of 1971 while the last diary (1972) of the first set had no Gasparo's name.
Then in 1992, in the second set had his name reappeared around the month of October. Where Gasparo came back as a man who regretted his deeds and seek apologies.
The kindhearted Demetrio accepted Gasparo's apologies the moment Gasparo shed crocodile tears, according to Ella who started to hate Gasparo even before meeting him. Demetrio, Bernardo and Gasparo's were having a good relationship like any other close friends. At the end of 1997, Demetrio had written that there were frictions happened between Demetrio and Gasparo in business.
Ella concluded that the friction could have been the root course for Demetrio's death or some other reason.
"We need diaries of year 1998-1999. I'm sure Mr. Agosti must have written about Ara in the 1998 diary, since that was the year he announced she was dead"
Diego nodded. "This is a lot than I had imagined. You are right, I need to find the other diaries now. I'm sure uncle D must have hidden it somewhere else probably where he had hidden her too."
"Absolutely! Find that diaries and we will be reaching our hidden treasure real soon" Ella cheered as she visualise herself being free from these heavy-duty task.
"Oh, I hate Gasparo. Once I find him, one punch right on his nose. How dare he warn me?" Ella kept mumbling while she gathered all the scattered diaries and placed them safely in her cupboard for time being.
Diego paid no attention to Ella's mumbling as he was lost in his thoughts trying to connect the dots. The information weighted too much for Diego, he couldn't come up with the conclusion on who was the reason for his Uncle D's death whether it was done by Gasparo D'Luca or ...
His father.
Though as a son he shouldn't be the first one to doubt his own father but as the day goes and with all those little meaning between the lines in the diaries, it raises his doubt.
Was his father the reason for Demetrio Agosti's death?
Or Gasparo D'Luca?
Or both?
