The next morning consisted of us packing up and heading back home. We decided we'd all go down to the club back in Liverpool for drinks. One thing we didn't think through, Cyn was meeting us there. So you can just imagine how upset she was when she realised I was with them the entire week, sharing a room with her boyfriend.
"...Look Cyn, we didn't do anything. She was there for Paul. Ye know i'd never do anything with one of me mates birds."
"I...really?"
"Yes." John sighed. "Were just friends love. Come on, don't ye trust me?"
"Of course I do John."
Big mistake.
"Good. Now come on. Let's have a few drinks then yeah?"
"Well I was thinking...since it's been a long time since we've...you know..."
I heard him laugh. Of course John gave in. He's not really one to pass up sex. I sighed and stopped listening into their conversation.
"Alright lads, were off. We 'av um...something we need to get to."
"Alright John. See ye later!" Paul said nodding.
"Bye John." I said taking a drink of my beer.
"Bye Luce." He said watching me. He could see the hurt in my eyes. I could feel Cyn burning a hole in my head as I glanced at her. They went off on their way as I stayed behind like always. Yup. Everything was back to normal.
...
"So will you be alright..ye know, bein home alone?"
"Of course I will George." I nodded. "Why wouldn't I?"
We stopped in front of my house and walked to the door. The rental van stopped working but thankfully, we all live in walking distance of the club. I offered to drive George home though. He could get sick out with this weather and I'd feel bad if I knew I could've prevented it.
"I just mean since...well I saw how upset ye looked when John ran off with Cyn back there."
"Oh no I'll be fine. Things are just back to normal that's all. I just have to deal with it now." I gave him a reassuring smile.
We walked inside my house as I set my bags in the living room. I grabbed my keys and headed for the door. George stopped me.
"Lucy...I don't want to see you hurt."
I sighed. "I'll be fine. Look I know what I'm getting myself into alright?"
"It's okay to be hurt Lucy. You don't have to pretend to be strong anymore."
"Who's pretending?" I said defensively. I looked taken back by my change in attitude.
"I'm just saying. I don't want to see you heartbroken."
"Well even if I do, it'll be my own fault you know? Come on." I said opening the door. He grabbed my hand, stopping me.
"George just...let's go."
"Not until we talk about this."
"There's nothing to talk about okay? John will leave her one day and then..."
"Then what huh? He'll devote himself to you!? Promise forever!? Wake up Lucy! John isn't one of those blokes who can stick to one bird! I've seen him go through girls like they're nothing! What makes you so damn special!?"
I was a little shocked by how angry and cold he sounded. "G...George.."
"No Lucy. You just...you're so fuckin stupid. I want to like you and care about ye but you just don't listen! You're fuckin big headed and just as twisted as he is!"
I bit my lip and stared at him. I felt tears well up in my eyes. "Let me just drive you home. Okay?" I said heading out the door. I didn't want to argue with him. I knew if I fired back, I'd just hurt him. I cared about him too much.
He followed me into the car and soon we were off to his place. It was silent except for my sniffling.
"Lucy I..."
"Just don't." I said not bothering to look at him. I pulled up at his place and stared straight ahead. He sighed and grabbed his things. He stopped just as he was about to close the door.
"I said those things because I care about ye. That's what a friend does. A real one."
And with that. He shut the door and went on his way. I watched as he walked to his front door and disappeared inside. Not looking back once. That was the last time I saw George Harrison.
