Four Months Later
August 13, 1965
I stared at my coffee mug, chewing on the end of my pen as I heard knocking on my office door. I looked up and smiled to see Andrew.
"Hey Luce. You hungry?"
"Yes."
"Come on. We'll get lunch." He said walking over to me and kissed my forehead. I nodded and got out of my seat, walking with him out of the office.
..
After losing the baby, I was told I couldn't have children. I've been struggling to cope with the loss but death seems to taunt me over and over again.
I wasn't well at all anymore. I guess I'm suffering through depression but to me it was just an everyday mood. There's only two people in this world who seem to still love me. One I work with, the other lives thousands of miles away and happens to be famous.
..
While at lunch with Andrew, he handed me an envelope which was already opened. I looked at it then at him. I was surprised to see it addressed to Andrew and not me. I knew who it was from.
I opened it to find one ticket to the beatles concert in a few days. I sighed and set it down.
"I'm not going."
"Lucy just listen.."
I shook my head. "No Andrew I'm not going. Sure i'll be happy to see George but I won't see him."
He sighed and cleared his throat. I froze when I heard a voice behind me.
"Lucy. It's me." I turned around.
"G...George!? Is that you!?"
"Shhh. Turn around and pretend were not together."
I sighed and stayed turned around. "George what are you doing here??"
He turned and looked at me through his sunglasses, his trenchcoat huge over his small frame. He was wearing a hat, making his hair peek out of the ends. I bit my lip from not laughing.
"George you look like a cheap version of Inspector Clouseau."
"Ha Ha. Look I have somethin to tell you."
I shook my head. "Will you two just realise that I'm not going to talk to John. I want nothing to do with him."
"He's going through depression Luce."
"Tough. What d'you think I've been dealing with for years now?" I said crossing my arms.
George came over and sat next to me. Andrew sighed.
"He tried to kill himself."
I stayed quiet. George went on.
"He had an accident with some pills about two nights ago. Me and Ringo found him passed out on the ground in a hotel room. While we tried waking him up, he kept mumbling your name. Saying, it wasn't fair. He should have been there for you and...he needs you."
I just looked up at Andrew and George. "He read the note didn't he? He finally read it. But he doesn't know I lost it."
George shook his head. "No. But, he wants to see you and...the baby. But, I think it's best you tell him yourself."
"I can't."
"Luce." Andrew grabbed my hand and looked at me. "He deserves to know. Just because you and him have your faults and don't get along, he needs to know."
I looked down and nodded. "I don't know if I can."
"You're strong Lucy. The decision is yours. The show is in two days. Think about it." George kissed my cheek and stood up.
"Where are you staying?" I asked.
"Andrew will tell you. The guys arrive tomorrow. I'll see you around."
He waved and left the restaurant. I sighed and sat back in my seat.
"Let's go back to work. I just need to get my mind off things for now."
..
Two Days LaterAs the day came around, I was as nervous as one could be. I ended up making a deal with Andrew. If I went to talk to John, he had to speak to Janice. It was only fair. He agreed so we both took the weekend off to settle our problems.
I walked into the hall of the hotel and stared at the door to his room. I looked around and held my hand up to knock but hesitated. I backed away a little but decided, running away isn't going to get me anywhere. I leaned in and knocked three times. No answer. Another three. No answer. I knocked harder this time, the door opening slightly. I pushed it open and flicked the light switch on.
I looked around at the trashed room. Pills spewed all over the floor, liquor bottles empty, the curtains closed to prevent any light. But no John.
"L...Lucy??"
I jumped hearing his voice and turned around to see him walk in the room.
"Hi John."
