"So I'll see you around then yeah?" Paul asked as we walked down the stairs. We spent two hours listening to records, talking about music, and getting to know each other. Paul seemed to be quite serious about becoming a musician. Just as confident as John. Just not as arrogant.

"Yeah. I'd love to see you again." I smiled leaning in, kissing his cheek. John walked out of the restroom and saw this, looking annoyed.

"Well, were off out then." John patted Paul on the shoulder and walked out the door.

"Uh...bye." Paul said looking a bit confused. I rolled my eyes.

"I'll talk to him alright?"

Paul nodded. "It was nice meetin you Luce."

"Nice meeting you too Paul. Bye." I smiled one last time and caught up with John outside.

"Well, that was pretty fun." I said walking with him. He didn't say anything.

"What's wrong?" I asked. He shook his head.

"Nothing."

"John." I grabbed him by the arm. He stopped and looked at me.

"Why him?"

"W...what?"

"The whole time we were there you laughed at his shitty jokes and listened to all his stories."

"So?"

"The way you looked at him.."

"I look at you the same way John."

He sighed and looked at the ground. "Why do I even care. I mean he's single, you're single..."

Was he jealous?

"John. Stop okay? Yes I like Paul. He's funny and sweet and talented. But I don't see him being my future husband for christs sake. Plus I listen to you."

"But..."

I put a finger over his lips and looked at him. "I listen to you." I leaned up and kissed his cheek. He turned bright red.

"What d'you think that a kiss on the cheek will make it all better??"

"I was hoping it would."  I shrugged

He just shook his head.

"Okay then." I turned on my heel and walked away. I heard his footsteps run over to me and felt him pull me by the arm.

"I'm sorry." He said looking at me. I smiled and reached for his hand. He intertwined his fingers with mine and held it tight.

"Let's go somewhere we'll both be comfortable yeah?" He smiled. I nodded as we walked hand in hand.

....

John led me to a small area outside a park. It was isolated but pretty nice. There were fields for miles. We sat on the grass.

"John?"

"Hmm?"

"Why do you want to spend time with me? I mean it'd be one thing if you just wanted sex but...this." I said looking around.

"I told ye, I like you."

"But you're going behind your girlfriend's back."

"Were not doin anything are we? I mean it's not like were snogging and shagging anytime we see each other. We've had many opprotunities for that already and look." He smiled. I laughed and shrugged.

"I guess you're right."

"Look, you just seem so different than other girls. You talk differently and act differently. It's always nice to make an actual friend who just sees me for who I am." He said picking at the grass and went on. "I just don't want anyone else to snatch you away."

I nodded and laid back. "Tell me about Cynthia."

He looked at me and shrugged. "Not much to tell."

"How do you two get along?"

"She's always trying to be someone she's not. I mean yeah I like her but...she just wants to move things along to fast. It's always about the future and whats going to happen."

"That's bad?"

"I'm just not that way ye know? Sometimes people just try to move on without enjoying a day. Time is wasted on just thinking."

"It's good to think."

"Not when you waste a day on it." He said grabbing a cigarette out of his pocket and lighting it.

"You're very complex John." I said pulling him down. He laid next to me and blew smoke out into the air. "Tell me a story."

He turned his head, looking at me and smiled. I  brushed my fingers over his eyebrows and watched him close his eyes.

"Can I kiss you?" He asked. Eyes still closed. I smiled and felt my stomach get butterflies.

"Ask me with your eyes open." I whispered." He opened them and looked into my eyes.

"Can I kiss you?"

"Yes." I said quietly. He leaned over and pressed his lips on mine. I rested my hand on his cheek and moved my lips with his. He tasted like cigarettes and syrup. My heart was racing as we kissed. It felt like I was high. Like I was floating on a cloud. Then it all ended.

I opened my eyes slowly as he pulled back. He opened his eyes and looked into mine.

"That was nice." He smiled, sitting up. I was still laying down, staring at the sky and trying to catch my thoughts. He resumed smoking his cig and stared out into the open fields.
