"...So then we'd what, get to play more and get more publicity yeah?"

"That seems about right. Look, fact is, 'es promotin another band who is in Hamburg and is doin quite well there. He said if we do better around 'ere, we might even go to Germany ourselves. First we'll 'ave to step it up and play more."

"I dunno lads. I mean I'm still in college and well..."

"Fuck college mate. Were talkin about a future 'ere!"

"I suppose."

We were all in my car, making our way home. So last night when Paul stole John out of the room, they met up with a promoter named Alan. He's a booking agent for a few bands around Liverpool and is a promoter for a very well known band who's currently in Hamburg.

This is hopefully their big break. If they can prove themselves to be good enough, Hamburg awaits. Which will hopefully be their ticket to stardom. Stu wanted to finish his last year at college, which was causing an issue between the group. I think Stu should stay and really focus on his dream of becoming an artist. But who am I to worm my way in? I'm just John's girlfriend slash driver.

"All I'm sayin is that we need to focus these next few months alright? I mean it. No lollygagging or goofin around like were used to. That means practicing more, try to find a drummer that we can actually rely on and can become a permanant member of the group." John said lighting a cig. Paul nodded in agreement as George yawned.

"Look John, what if we work our arses off and nothing comes through? What if it's all for nothing?" George said shrugging.

"Then that's that chance we'll 'ave to take. Look George, we need ye. You're a part of this band and one of us. But if ye want out now just say so."

George stayed quiet and looked down. I sighed and watched him through the rearview mirror. Poor thing.

"Then that's settled. Stu, you still in or not?"

He sighed and nodded. "Fuckin christ. Yeah. I'm in." He smiled. John nodded.

"And ye Luce? What d'you say about all of this?"

"I'm only in it for the money darlin." I smirked leaning over to kiss his cheek. He laughed and squeezed my leg.

"That's my girl."

..

I sighed in relief as I walked in the familiar living room.

"It feels so good to be home!" I groaned setting my bags down.

"It's funny how this feels like all of our home." Paul laughed turning the tv on and plopping down on the sofa.

"I'll take a cuppa tea. Thanks love." Paul smiled nodding to me.

"Get your lazy ass up and do it yourself." I laughed.

"But ye make it so good. Pleeeaase?" He pouted. I rolled my eyes.

"Fine."

John kissed the top of my head as he walked past me with some papers in hand, over to the living room with Paul and Stu. George walked in the small kitchen with me.

"Lucy?"

"Yeah Geo?" I asked putting water in the kettle.

"What d'you really think of this? D'you think it's a mistake?"

I turned to see him sitting on a chair. I sighed and pulled a chair, sitting across from him.

"No. It's a risk but..I don't think it's a mistake."

"I see. I'm just...a little scared." He looked down.

"Why?"

He shrugged. "It sounds so different when we talk about it ye know? Or when I imagine it. Bein up there on stage. People watchin me play. Climbing up to the top. But when you experience it...it's just scary."

"It's okay to be nervous George."

"I know but...people change Luce. Will I change?"

"You're a sweet, kind, loving human being George. You'll always be that way. I know it...look at me."

He looked up at me, into my eyes as I spoke.

"No matter how old you get, or even if we drift apart or...we never see each other down the line, remember this...you and me, the fall of nineteen fifty seven, dancing together, how nervous you were, how red you turned when I kissed you. That is one of my favorite memories George. Too me, you'll always he that shy, clumsy, rambling kid who had the courage to ask a girl three years older than him to a college dance."

He laughed and nodded. "I'll never forget that Luce. It's one of my favorite memories too."

It was quiet for a few minutes as we stared at each other until the kettle began to whistle. We jumped.

"Fuckin christ." George laughed. I giggled and got up, grabbing a cup.

"You don't want any?"

"Nah i'm alright. I think I'm just goin to go home."

"Not goin to talk with the others?" I asked turning to him. I was startled but relaxed as he stood right in front of me. He leaned down and kissed me passionatly. I closed my eyes and kissed back instantly, moving my arms around his neck. He back me up against the counter and moved his lips with mine.

"Hey Lucy where's my te.."

We both pulled away quickly as Paul stood frozen, staring at us in the doorway.
